Raiders again threaten Las Vegas move

I agree about the move. If San Diego passes on LA, I think the Raiders will choose that path of least resistance. If not I think LV could happen. Goodell and the NFL resistance to sports betting can be overcome in this day and age. There's probably more illegal betting in NYC than in all of Nevada, so that old song is getting pretty weak. If funding can be secured, I think it could happen, and the Raiders are a natural for LV.

The NFL with open arms (and probably a very big paycheck) accepted these Fantasy League franchises, where one could win considerable money. Some states have argued it is gambling and have made it illegal. If the NFL pushes the anti-gambling element too much, they will have to answer for their hypocrisy on this issue.

As for visiting teams, the last place a head football coach wants his team going to is Las Vegas. I think the Ritz Carlton out at Lake Las Vegas would make a great visiting team hotel. It is far enough away from the strip, that players would have a much harder time sneaking out.
I believe they'll need a lot more space than that unless there's already a ton of parking space around it.

A 42-acre site at East Tropicana Avenue and Koval Lane near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is shown Thursday, Jan. 29, 2016. Las Vegas Sands Corp. is leading a consortium of investors to partner with UNLV to build a $1 billion domed stadium that would be home to school‘s football team — and possibly a National Football League franchise.

Agree on all points. The old gambling theory is age old, although if Goodell had a leg to stand on, he might give it a go. As it is though, he knows his power is long gone and his tenure ain't too far behind. Casino Cos will buy not only suites for high rollers, but I'd guess blocks of tickets for the unwashed masses. Then go to merchandising. Do you think they might sell a few jerseys and hats? Traffic won't be fun, but it comes with major league sports.

I think Met Life Stadium sits on over three hundred acres of land.
Vegas has tons of buses. A natural to haul fans to and from the game. For the tailgaters, one car brings all the stuff and secures a parking spot and the others ride in. Gives them a little time to sober up after the game is over too.

Ray
They're called "parking structures" folks.
Seeing how its next to the airport, I'd imagine they cant go much more than six or seven levels. Then you need roads into and out of them, as well as bus lanes, taxi stands, drop off points and emergency lanes. That's an awful lot to put on 42 acres.
More than 95% of the 30+m people will not go to see the raiders play, but yet they will have to pay for the stadium, probably long after the stadium is paid for.

If Vegas really wants a team the people should pony up. How about PSL's?

Full disclosure - I chose not to buy a psl for the Jets.
I live in the Bay Area so I'm aware of the troubles the Raiders have had in securing a new stadium. Basically, the city and county can't afford to use local funds, not when the schools and police need help. Davis, unlike most all the other owners, doesn't have other businesses of his own to provide funds - his only business is the Raiders. So the only way to come up with the dough is outside investors, like Sands or the LV Convention authority. And for what - 8 home dates a year? The NFL rakes in billions - that's where the money should come from.
