Raiders Exploring Possibilities of Moving Team to Las Vegas

Quote

UNLV is hoping to partner with the Las Vegas Sands to build a new $1 billion domed stadium that would seat 60,000 people and house the school's football team. UNLV has already secured 42 acres of land for the project, which was proposed by the Sands.

"The Sands leadership team let us know that officials from the Oakland Raiders are scheduled to travel to Las Vegas and tour locations around the valley for a potential new home and they have asked us to meet them at our 42-acre site on Friday morning to answer questions about the site," Jessup wrote in the email.

This would be my wildest dream, seeing that I'm a Raider fan.

I think the NFL will fight them in every way they can. While the NFL didn't have a problem with fantasy football, they don't like anything to do with gambling.

Oscar Goodman at one time had a meeting with Paul Tagliabue. He told the commissioner that LV would build a state of the art stadium, with numerous luxury suites. In return he asked that the NFL move Monday Night Football permanently to Las Vegas, and that they throw LV a Super Bowl every 4 years. Tagliabue wanted nothing to do with it, because of the association of LV and gambling.
I'd much rather see a team in Vegas than London.
Agreed.

Vegas is a large metro area, along with thousands of tourists every weekend who would want to go see a NFL game. It would be destination spot for the visitors fans. The NFL has been promoting gambling though th fantasy sports sites and the Sunday preview shows talk about the spread.

Most problems with game fixing has come from illegal gambling, not the Vegas casinos who are better positioned to detect a fix.

Cut the pretense & let a team in, although Vegas would have to deal with the onslaught of Raider fans every weekend.
Hmmmm - Raider fans in Vegas. Just imagine Freemont street with the Raiders in town.
I do believe that if LV were to get the Raiders, than a 60,000 seat stadium would be too small.

And football weekends would turn Las Vegas into a crowded zoo.
I went to a Raiders - Niner game at the stick - scary. All the raider fans wanted to do was start fights. Found out the next day there was a shooting in the parking lot.
The hotels would buy up the luxury suites. Maybe you can dress the Raiderettes in even skimpier costumes. I think it would be great.

The Raiders want the City of Oakland to pony up big bucks to build a new stadium but there is no money in city coffers for that, particularly when there are so many other civic needs. Mark Davis only has the Raiders; other owners have side businesses that generate money. One wonders what he'll have to pay to play in Adelson's new park; a share of ownership, perhaps? The Raiders only play 8 home games a year, so the stadium will need to be utilized for other purposes the rest of the time.
