As a life long library user and person with no cable, I "grab" random movies to have on hand. Oddly, this movie is about fate and I grabbed it at random by title "Grand Canyon". It is by Steve Martin, who also I have given much thought to his seemingly ambiguous song "atheist ain't got no song" In both pieces of work, I have never discerned his actual intention. They both can be interpreted to a few arguments I suppose, but i love the message to me, but I truly think he wrote it with two intentions. I was not a huge fan of Steve Martin and his fluff comedies, but as a bluegrass fan I've found him more appealing. I'd be interested to hear opinions on either of these pieces of work if anyone watches them, especially given our heightened political upheaval at the moment and this commentary being 25 years ago. Not unnoticed is that this movie is of the original Clinton years and we are just leaving the obama years and the conversation about Chicago and the rest of our current climate depicted in this movie.
And more importantly, is there just no such thing as a time without unrest and what does that say about the human spirit? Unhappiness is an addiction and choice.
I loved the use of imagery in this movie. I guess this did win awards in the day, but I'd never heard of it.
