Rao's marinara recipe.

I forget who it was that had recommended Rao's marinara sauce (redwoodpecker?) I really don't remember but ahyhoo, I came across this yesterday along with their meatball recipe. Apparently Rao's is a big name Italian place in NYC and quite good. I haven't tried either of these yet but plan to soon.

So whoever it was, I thought you'd like a look at these.

Those recipes look way too complicated to me, jatki (hehehe).

Raos is as famous for the difficulty in getting into it as it is for the food. It can take months to get a reservation if you are an outsider. My friends father is someone who can get a same week reservation. I tried calling one day and no one even picked up. I like their meatballs but their sauce is too sweet for me.
I've dined at the Raos in Vegas. I've also bought a jar of marinara at my neighborhood grocery a few times.

Its the original Rao's, on 114th St in Harlem that is impossible to get into. They make their sauce from scratch every day and their pasta is all handmade.

Thanks, for nothing.

Its good to have the recipe for the sauce. It is outrageously priced at the store. It costs about as much to buy their sauce as it does to get a meal in their restaurant. I might try that recipe and see how it goes....although im partial to Clemenza's recipe in the Godfather

Several recipes for Clemenza's sauce on the internet, but they're all pretty much the same. Here's one:

Clemenza's Spaghetti Sauce

San Marzano tomatoes aren't cheap either. I bought them once and didn't see that much a difference, they cost about 4X regular canned 'maters, about four bucks a can. I'm still gonna try this recipe though at some point. I'll report(or if anyone beats me to it) any results, I'm curious how good, or not good, it is. Same with the meatballs, they look really good but the recipe has fairly common ingredients. We'll see.
