HI, I rent most times in Vegas.
Bounced around from Hertz, Avis, Thrifty, Dollar...depends if I can leave at the hotel (always prefer taking cab to airport when leaving Vegas)

If you have American Express - check with them - they cover rental cars if you use AMX, so do some other CC's.
ALWays keep checking rates, book a car when you book trip (to secure a car)...then check and check.
You can cancel online. One trip I re-booked a car 5 times and my original rate was $345.00, finally paid $123.00

We have always rented with ALAMO and have been more than pleased. Probably for about 25 years now.

They have a kiosk at the rental car facility in LV so you don't have to deal with any high pressure salesmen trying to talk you into insurance, etc.

It is quick and you're upstairs picking out your car in just a few minutes.

You can always get a good coupon in either the Entertainment Book for your area, BJ's, Costco, Sam's Town, etc.

We always book our car a couple of months before we leave. THEN watch each day, sometimes a few times a day and check to see if the price comes down - is usually does.

This past trip (two weeks ago) I originally booked a compact for $253.00 and when we actually ldid use it in January 20th the price for the 9 days was $126. Not bad, huh??????

Once, years ago my husband hit a curb damaging the tire and the hubcap. We thought for sure they would charge us a bundle. Nope, not even the usual day of not renting because of the repair. Just a normal charge for the replacements. We were very pleased since we have heard horrid stories of how they can really charge you a bunch if this happened.

Stay clear of the "no name" companies. My son-in-law rented from a cheapo agency and had a terrible experience. Too detailed to go in to though.

Stick with ALAMO - they're the best!!!!
FWIW, if you are Hertz Club 1 Gold then all dings/dents are forgiven. or at least they used to be, YMMV.
