Rental Car Prices Out of Sight!!

I've been trying to book a rental car for our upcoming trip to Las Vegas (Jan 23-30). We always book with Alamo and have always had prices less than $180 for even 8 days or longer!!!

This year I am finding it almost close to $300 for the 7 days!
I know it is supply and demand but these prices haven't budged in months.

I usually book it and watch the rates come down and down and then just book the new rate and cancel the previous one.

Do you think I should wait for their "Last Minute" deals????

Can anyone help with some good deals. Thank you!!
That's strange. I just checked carrentals.com and they show very high prices for those dates. I just rented a car in Vegas last week for $145 for the week all in. I originally booked with Firefly but after reading a lot of negative reviews I canceled them. A few days before my trip, Enterprise dropped their rates and had an economy car for the same price as Firefly. When we went to pick up the car at Enterprise they asked us if we wanted to upgrade for $9 a day. We declined. When we went to the car lot to pick up our car we were told all the economy cars were sold out and we got a free upgrade to a midsize. That seemed a bit underhanded but other than that, Enterprise was smooth sailing. Very professional.

PS. I tried coupon codes, BJs codes, Entertainment Book codes and they don't beat the rates at carrentals.com
carrentals.com -This is the site we use as well, best rates we've ever had have been here.

Costco.com travel has some pretty smoking rental deals sometimes as well.

Alamo seems to have hiked prices this year. I've always booked with them in the past...but this year I ended up going with Budget which was about $50 cheaper. I got a week in December for under $100 plus taxes (midsize car, Costco coupon code).
We rented a Suburban the week of Thanksgiving from Enterprise through Costco travel. It was significantly cheaper than any other site or coupon code.
I would try Priceline.com and bid for a car on those dates. Bid low and you can always change your price. I've gotten great deals doing this! Worst they can say is NO!
If you go the Priceline route, use www.biddingfortravel.com to check to see what others have been getting their cars for around the same time.
All good ideas, which I will try for my April trip. the car rental is my next highest expense after the horrific airfare prices.
I finally found a cheaper price right with Alamo site. I used the "insider" since I joined a few years ago.
I got a standard car for the week for $235. The midsize was MORE. I sometimes can't understand their reasoning but I'm continuing to check several times a day.

Thanks for all your input. Between the sky high airfare and the sky high car rental, it's a good thing the hotels are cheap!!!
