Resort Fees

I agree Bonnie.Earlier this year I stayed at Ballys on a comp and still to pay the resort fee,at the time was $25 per night.
Derek Stevens stated about a year and a half ago on a podcast that the reason he was adding the fee was so he lower the base rates on his rooms so his hotel would show up on the travel websites like Priceline and Orbitz. We are getting the same amenities that we got say five years ago the only thing different now is that they are "charging us" for them now. They get the benefit of showing up on page one on the websites. I still think it's a ripoff.

I think it is the popularity of Priceline. You say you want a 4 star room in Vegas for $30 they offer you one and then when you checkout it costs $70. It really is fraudulent and I wish a lawyer would challenge it and anyone who has paid these fees would be entitled to a refund.
I stayed in the Cabana Suites, owned by the El Cortez last week. The resort fee was $10 for coffee, use of the DG pool, wifi + bottle water. When we got to the room they are now charging $5 for a cup of coffee, the wifi was spotty and the DG pool is closed for the winter.

Yes Jon,we all agree!
I wish that the properties that NO NOT charge any "add-on" resort fees would say:

"WE DON'T CHARGE RESORT FEES!" At the top of their reservation forms.

All of the Boyd Properties do not. Right?
Uproar? You bet!
I thought that the FTC was going to get involved years ago.
What about The Better Business Bureau?
The State of Nevada doesn't care what goes on,I guess.

"We have cheap rates(Except for the resort fees)"
Some one is pissed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KObQN_gtqyg
This is more like it:

I filled out the form and submitted it to her!

The downtown Boyd properties do not. However,Sams Town, GC, Orleans + Suncoast do.

I am sorry you all feel I am "ignorant" or "stupid". I visit Vegas 1-2 times per year for 5-7 days each visit.

I like to stay on the strip. I do not want to rent a car, although we have in the past and visited a lot of really neat places around town. I use the buses, trams, and walk where I want to go.

I don't gamble enough to get rooms comped but I can get rooms at Mirage for $30 per nite and pay a $30 resort fee, so I am paying $60 per nite for a hotel. I am okay with that.

Seems like a good deal by me.

drsteele, don't feel bad for renting a room at what you feel is a reasonable price. This was my point in the post to this thread. If the total price is good, that's all that matters. Sometimes I read these resort fee threads and I almost think some posters would rather pay $80 for a room than $40+$25 RF! As to RFs being deceitfull, that's nuts. If you don't know to check for one, make sure to pack that phonebooth you call a cell, put nametags in all your clothes and bring those breadcrumbs so you can get back home.

Good Luck!

No Joe, you're missing the point. Just be honest with the final price of your room. BOTTOM LINE. What if every product was sold this way. It would be total chaos. It's the old " Bait And Switch" tactics used in the 60's and 70's. What if you went in to buy a television that was advertised for $300 and found out that the remote control, the only one that you use to work the set was an extra $50. Oh yeah, that remote only uses special batteries (made by the company that made the TV) was another $25.

Just be honest....... Is that to !uch to ask??????
At the risk of being redundant, I'll again state my position on resort fees. While I dislike the concept of a mandatory fee, not utilizing this tactic puts casino hotels at a marketing disadvantage. They won't even get a look online by some folks if they don't have the cheap "teaser rate". That being said, the fees are likely with us for some time.

The angst that these add on fees brings to some people confuses Boiler. Why does anyone really care if the room costs $150, or $125 + $25? Please don't answer as it will only confuse me further.

If none of them did this, none of them would be at a disadvantage then would they?????
