Revel casino files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

AC's Revel casino files chapter 11.

Wasn't this the place that was going to bring A.C. back to becoming a gambling mecca ?

It's just a matter of time before the Boardwalk becomes all condos.

Once one or two casinos close, the rest will fall like a house of cards.

A.C. sat by too long and watched the gambling world catch up to them, and then pass them.

AC is an expensive place to operate... too many casino choices popping up in the area.

Leaving AC by the freeway... you see billboards for other casino options.

Leaving AC by Brigantine... you see the casino operations/warehouses because it's too expensive to keep supplies (cups, toilet paper, etc) in AC.

That and the fact that the casinos since they opened in the 80's have not had to put any profits into the city of AC.
You step off the boardwalk after dark and it can be scary.

The casino employees on the ocean side who drive to work have to start an hour early (without pay) to drive to a lot located outside of the city and take the train in than they have to take the Jitney to work.
At least Borgata provides an employee parking garage on property.

I believe that someday the Marina area, where Borgata is, will be the only area in A.C. with casinos,
and the Boardwalk, like I stated before, will be casino-turned-condos.

There are three large metropolitan areas that historically made AC a huge weekend destination for gambling: NY, Philadelphia/ Baltimore-DC. Much of that population now has gamblinig venues that are more close by.

AC needs to reinvent itself if it wants to remain relevant. Las Vegas became a dining and entertainment mecca - and a convention center capital. AC needs to find something aside from gambling if they want to keep the toursits coming.
making this place a non-smoking casino was a big mistake. with all the other casino offering some type of smoking area for gamblers, why would people who smokes go here. You would think they would want a peice of everyones gambling dollar and not seragate people that smoke. Plus the room rates are way over priced. I go to A.C at least once a month and have never been in the place.
No VP bars. Expensive drinks. Revel is a beautiful place but run too much like a boutique hotel. I was there in December. It's more fun at dirty old Showboat.
Partly may be it's location too. Isn't it the last casino on the Boardwalk ?
....... but irregardless, it was probably just caught up in the whole A.C. declination.
