Ringling Bros. And Barnum & Bailey Circus To Shut Down

DonDiego remembers when he was in elementary school his parents wrote the school a note for an excused absence to go see the circus. His brother and little DonDiego got to see "The Greatest Show on Earth" at the Madison Square Garden on a day-trip way-far-away in New York City.

He doesn't remember much, but he does remember he was excited and impressed. By now whatever memories he had are so mixed up with movie versions of circuses he cannot keep them separated.

Farewell to "Entertainment for Children of All Ages."
Were the clowns scary back then?
So could this forum now takeover their moniker of "the greatest show on earth"? It seems obvious to me!
I have recollections of TGSOE also, from back around 1960. Watching the elephant parade before the circus even got started. Clown's were not scary. Hard to be scared of 20 clowns riding in a dinky sedan. Vague memories, all. It's a shame future generations won't be able to see it.

really?
They're still touring for a few months - looks like the eastern half of the US. The closest they get to me is Cincinnati. It might be worth going. Tickets start at $25....I'm sure I've paid more than that for far worse shows in Vegas.

For the kids that could never get to a zoo, the circus was how they got to see wild animals.
I love the circus but Ringling Brothers has been declining for years.
Back in the 1970s, when they came to town, they would bring in the train and hold a parade to the Colosseum.
It would be over a mile and tens of thousands would line the route. The last time I went, the parade was a couple of years ago. The parade was only a few hundred yards and the participants seemed to outnumber the spectators.
The show itself was under two hours. It used to be three.
I suspect they will revive it in some form. I think the brand is too valuable to fade away.
Perhaps another merger, just like when Ringling Brothers combined with Barnum and Bailey.

Latest word is that Ringling Brothers is merging with Trump's cabinet picks - I'm expecting it to be wildly successful....
Maybe they should announce a move to Mexico. Then trump can shower them with money and claim to have saved another 12,000 jobs.
