Rossen Reports: New device lets crooks crack many hotel locks

Good idea to take all your money down to the casino and invest it in the slots, etc. More fun than getting your room robbed
Thats a little disturbing.
Since I'm so cheap I don't take a lot of cash with me to Vegas but my wife always has her computer and conf. papers with her and stashes it in the safe , if it fits.
I also have friends that take a HUGE amount of cash with them and use the inroom safe.
So how secure do you think those in-room safes are?
Tht's why they have safes in the room!

Bags, not all rooms have them. I actually check before even considering staying at a hotel.
Thought this thread looked familiar:

Hence my question. How secure are in room safes?

Is there a little do-dad that lets thieves into the safe just as easily?

The hotel has to be able to open and reset the safe if a guest leaves it locked. How easy is it to obtain this ability?
Most Vegas hotels have safety deposit type boxes for rent. Check at the main cashier cage.

Depends on the make/model etc.

If you pay a visit to your local "safe" store, you'll find that those in wall combination lock boxes like the casinos use have a special key to unlock them in the event your batteries go dead or you lose your combination. They keyhole usually has some sort of "logo" and sits flush with the exterior. But it can be pulled out, and access to the keyway is relatively easy. Hotel security has a key for those in room safes.

As for thieves, actually "picking" the lock may be more difficult. Or not. And I do not know if that keyhole can be drilled easily or not. If so, concealing the drilling would be easy, just put back the logo "cap".

Personally, I use the safe deposit box for cash and "valuables", and the room safe for my laptop, and smaller amounts of cash, etc.

"Use the security chain on your door." ????

What hotel still has chain for door security?

These looked like old door locks.

Slow news day...old crap.
