Guess it's a good thing I don't go there to see the cocktail waitress. In all seriousness though I like the Sahara. You can usually find $5 blackjack tables with 3:2 payback and there are always open tables. Even the animated blackjack machines there are single deck if you can't somehow find a table. I would miss going there if it closed. It still has that feel of old Vegas to it.
The Sahara and Stardust used to be one of our regular "haunts" when we were living there from 1995-1997. They used to have such great deals there like getting a $5 ticket when you hit a flush playing loaded. I was always "loaded" so I got plenty of those. LOL! They also had a promotion going where they would randomly stop at a machine at a machine and ask you to pick an envelope that had anything from $200 to free dinners at their restaurants. We cleaned up on that deal. Always liked their casino when Bennett owned it. His daughter put in some machines from a company that she owned that was similar to MegaBucks .Had something to do with hitting 3 Ducks on the center line for the jackpot. When we were broke and waiting for money, we got all the free drink coupons that we could handle. WE knew everyone in the joint which always helped. Haven't been in there for years.

when was the last time you saw there 3:2 $5 tables, because the last 2 times I was in the place, everything uinder $25 was 6:5?

Comps were great back in the old days. My Mom and Dad use to go to Atlantic City . My Mom always would tell me how a host or hostess would be walking around giving out show ticket and dinners and offers to stay another night . Coin in and coin out .

Had them there last time I was there which was 1/15-1/22. Place was dead too. Hardly anyone even in there playing. This was around midnight when I would go there. I went on a couple of weekday nights in the middle of the week. Even those $1 tables had plenty of seating. It was a bit weird seeing a place that had so many open seats at whatever table you went to. What days of the week were it when you went?

the 6:5 I was seeing was on the weekend. like I said, the first time was superbowl weekend so I was hoping it was just an isolated occurrence. But last April it was also 6:5. That was a Friday night, i think.

Well I can certainly understand the places that still pay 3:2 to have higher minimums at their tables on the weekend, but the Sahara is usually still pretty slow on the weekends. On the weekends I usually gamble either downtown or off strip. Maybe trying going on a weekday night to see if Sahara has a $5 3:2 table. Maybe I just got lucky this last time because of how slow it was. I hope they aren't trying to push everything to 6:5 because I enjoy playing there since there is never a crowd and it's easy to get a seat at a single deck table.
I haven't been to the Sahara since the Holy Cow across the street closed. I did like the place but never go down to that end of the strip anymore. Instead I take the 106 out to Big Dogs.
It certainly doesn't appear as though the owners are investing any money to spruce up the place - but thats about the extent of the evidence that it is imminently closing. Circus Circus seems to have survived with that formula for the last 10 years. I think both of these properties market themselves heavily to the Vegas-virgin that doesn't know enough to stay somewhere else.

Having said that, I'm a fan of Sahara and their $25 matchplay in the ACG makes it a must stop every visit...
