Sahara Hotel to Close

What I think is shitty about the whole thing is if you go their website, they make no mention of closing.

The best time I ever had there was when my brother in law and my Mom and both of my sisters went with me to Vegas and we went to the Sahara to see Gallagher there. He is the comedian that smashes the watermelons with the big ole homemade sledge hammer.

Well we ended up having front row seats and I did not have anything to cover my head up with and he picked on me the whole show. When it was over I had all kinds of shit in my hair like mustard, chocolate syrup. You name it. After the show I had to run to the bathroom and wash it all out!

Fun time.
anybody have any good photo of sahara to share?

You might want to check the Sahara Photos Thread I started....

so, when is the auction? I would love to pick up some "old vegas" like a blackjack table. maybe I could get the infamous blackjack table that stopped me from every playing BJ again... 20 losing hands in a row playing correct strategy. even the pit boss came over to say he had never saw such a run of bad luck. fortunately it was twenty $1 losses in a row. other players started to make "side bets" that I would finally win a hand... and didnt .

I'll miss it and I hope it reopens. As many times as I have visited Las Vegas over the years I do not think I have ever stopped in there. Always sad to see one of the older places close.

I will be in town on the closing date. Do we know what time they will actually shut their doors? Midnight maybe? I'd like to be in there til the last moment possible. What strategy should I use? I'm sure they'll be chasing people out well before the actual closing time so aside from taking a long bathroom break, am I better off on a table game? slot? bar?
Lloyd, your note reminded me that my husband and I also saw Gallagher there, probably about 10 years ago??. We were in the front section, but not the front row. We got the plastic ponchos to cover up with, and what I remember most is the sound of the whooshing of plastic whenever the crowd thought something was going to be flying their way. After the show I saw some people walking out that were absolutely covered with a conglomeration of food! Though I thought I came out clean, I kept smelling mustard all night and finally discovered that I had a little bit of mustard in my ear! Great show, and great memories of the Sahara. I too hate to see all the old casinos going away......... wish the Sands and the Hacienda were still there!
All I can say is if it is not nailed down, and says "Sahara" on it, I'd be sorely tempted to bring it home with me, whether paper cocktail napkins and matches, of something much "better". Especially something like an employee badge, nametags, etc.

I believe it was 1998 or 99 we saw him there. Cool thing was my sister took pictures during the show and last year she sent some to his agent and Gallagher autographed about 5 or 6 of them.

She did the same with Carrot Top.
