Sahara to re-open?

I hold animosity towards Sahara because #1 it is a total dump and I play at classy casinos here in Vegas not dirty filthy dives with ripped carpets and disgusting smells that hit you when you enter the place and #2 because the current owners are closing the place to break the union workers.

Basically the place is a shithole and deserves to be closed.

And how many of those places have 3-2 at $5 a hand?? I know Bellagio, Wynn, Venetian, Caesars, Mirage, Mandalay all don't! Just because you have a hatred towards Sahara doesn't mean everyone does. It's an old classic part of Vegas. A lot of people like old Vegas places and downtown which are far from "classy" places. The place may have fallen into bad ownership, but it's a classic and historic Vegas property. Do you hate most of downtown too because they're not "classy"? I am not even going to comment on the Union part.

If they close the place down, and as 1 post suggested "get rid of the union", then re-open without a union.

I wonder how many people will line up for a job they want and how many will be thankful to have a job and perform the job.
Unlike the exisiting employees - who obviously do not care at all.

Note to Readers:
Good employees can turn a business around - even non-union employees can do a good job. Yes I know it is hard to believe that a non-union worker can actually do a good job - hey they may even be educated and a hard worker and work extra hours - it can happen. I have faith in non union workers.

Well said Andrew!
I like the Sahara. Had some great times there.
We always liked the "Old Vegas" feel of the Sahara. Sure the place isn't the glitz and glamor of the new resorts (to us that's one of the cool things about it) and surely is not as clean as other places but like Snidely, we've had some great times there. I cut my teeth on Craps there, we played some cheap BJ for hours and even stayed there on one of our Winter - "Cheap Trips". Although it may be 2 or 3 years before we get back to Vegas, I'm hoping the place will have re-opened by then - but seriously have my doubts.

At one time, it was one of my favorite Casinos to play in.

The last 2 times I was at the Sahara, Feb 2010 and April 2010, all of the $5 and $10 BJ tables were 6:5. There was some 3:2, but they were $25. Granted, both of these were weekend nights, but the Sahara has no business whatsoever dealing 3:2 BJ on $5 and $10 tables, even on a Saturday night. On my last 2 trips, I have seen no reason to go to the Sahara, which is a shame, because I had some good times there in 2009.

$1 hotdogs and $1 shots. Old, cranky cocktail waitresses, a showroom full of 70+ year partiers and a few spry 90 year olds too.

Now, hating on the Riviera I can understand.

They had $5 3:2 blackjack this January when I was there. Still had the $1 hot dogs, $1 beer, and $1 blackjack too. They also had a couple of the animated $1 single deck blackjack machines too. They had the tables on Saturday afternoon too before, but as you mentioned it may be different on weekend nights. I still looked at Sahara as one of the better places to gamble in the North part of the strip.

Funny that you know for a "fact" that none of those places have $5 because you are wrong again pal. I was at Mirage about 2 weeks ago (10 am) buying tickets to LOVE. That whole pit by the box office and poker room were $5 tables. Last week at Mandalay Bay (5am) their shoe game right by high limit was $5. Either way, it shouldn't matter if the game is $5 or $25. If you play at a 6/5 shoe game then you're a moron that must be allergic to money. But yes some strip casinos like mirage and MB do at times have $5 shoe games. And yes those tables that I saw at Mirage and MB paid 3/2 on bj.

Garthman I think you should buy the Sahara, pump your money into it and bring it back to its old glory lolz.

The place is a dump, obviously many many other people feel the same way as me since they are making no money and will be closed soon. Good riddance to that flea bag dump.

What about the other places you mentioned? They obviously never have $5 tables. I can name a lot of places that have $5 almost 24/7 and not crappy times like 5 A.M. when hardly anyone is playing. Most of those places you enjoy playing have more 6:5 tables compared to 3:2 tables. It's the places you would consider "dumps" that have 3:2 tables nearly all the time, better VP odds, and nearly betters odds at every game. How do you think places like Bellagio stay open? It's certainly not by having the best odds in Vegas.... They paid their bills by getting suckers to play there because it's "luxurious".
