Sahara to re-open?

That sounds like a very risky proposition to me.

I suspect they do have a two year plan; they do need to keep multiple regulators in check. However, I also suspect they are just tired of the bleeding and aren't really committed to anything.

Here's my bold, crazy, insane prediction: If it reopens, it will reopen without gambling.

If it reopens without gambling what would be the point? I don't think the hotel can generate enough profit on its own.

Strip property... even where the Sahara sits... is too valuable not to have gambling. Unless it becomes another high end residential property. But what do you think the chances of that happening? Umm... like rolling hard six at craps (1 out of 36), or hitting 29 on a double zero roulette wheel (1 out of 38), or getting dealt a royal (1 out of 629,740)??
Look at the neighborhood.

Within a few hundred yards going north .....

Strat

Bonanza Souvenir shopping center

and what else.....

Oh, yeah.....

vacant & derelict building or two.

Keep going and what do you see/find...... Not much.

The Sahara may be the "next" Lady Luck. They were going to reopen also.

The property may be "valuable", but it is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Unless it generates income, it's value is -EV due to property taxes, upkeep, licenses, etc.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that they "have a relationship with the folks at MGM". I think it was in their "announcement" about closing awhile back, perhaps on their web site.

Could that be a precursor? "MGM Sahara" ?????

Only time will tell.

I see no reason to re-open Sahara until work starts again on what used to be the Stardust.
Carl Icahn should buy it and connect it to the strat with zip lines. When things really turn around, he can open the Fountainebleau and connect all three.
I'm just thinking that something outside the box is plausible. Disney? Animation entertainment? Music venue? Theatres? It does have the monorail stop.

It will just never be attractive for the whales, that's all I'm saying.

Just what Vegas needs..... to become a destination for families with children. Disney Las Vegas. Right. <sic>

Yeah. More children of all ages. Lot's and lot's of 'em.

Don't forget the strollers.

You dont need "whales" to have a profitable casino. Heck, HET did very well scaring away the whales with lots of 25-cent slots, a reduction in table games, and free rooms.

You mean the "new Vegas" that all looks the same and all lacks originality or sense of Las Vegas culture? LOL .... Seriously though, I unfortunately agree with you
