Sahara to re-open?

Carl Icahn should buy it and connect it to the strat with zip lines. When things really turn around, he can open the Fountainebleau and connect all three.

I'm sticking to my insane prediction.

The property just isn't competitive "inside the box." They need to do something different.

I agree think outside the box for a change. Instead of seeing the old casino as a bad thing.....run with it and make it a good thing. Make it a historical/tourist interest point where tourists can come and gamble and see shows but also get a feel for how Old Vegas was. A new casino wouldn't have that option.

Clean it up and swank it up. Make it elegant. Tuxes for the dealers and doormen. Remodel rooms as suites furnished in period style. Charge prices and set table minimums to attract the affluent and discourage the tourists so that the casino will be full of suits and evening gowns. Give it the atmosphere of a small private club.

They could resurrect Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra. Dr. Frankenstein, please pick up a white courtesy phone.
KayPea, that is similar to what Bellagio was supposed to be. Remember? Men had to wear sports jackets, etc. And that didnt last past opening night.

do you really think there is enough of a demographic to justify making the Sahara a "tuxedo casino" ?

I don't think so, but I think Im going to register the name "tuxedo casino." LOL

Hmmm. Maybe they could acutally make it a small private club. You have to stay there or pay there to play there. I'm sure that's against some gaming reg though.

Look at what was being developed on the North Strip prior to the crash. Fontainebleau, Plaza, Echelon; all between Wynn and Sahara. Fontainebleau would have been between Sahara and Riviera. Movement was to redevelop the North Strip into higher end properties, the first of which were the Wynn and Encore. Sahara site is a natural anchor for the North Strip. Lots of developable properties there.

When development starts up again, look for a North Strip focus for the new developments, just as there was before the crash. That would make the Sahara very valuable property indeed. And there is a good shell to start with. Total rehab, into higher end of middle class or lower end of luxury class. Would work.

I think a place the size of Sahara would have a much better chance than a place the size of Bellagio.
Mix one part ambition, one part other peoples' money, and BAMM!

This has some legs, but doesn't the Fountainebleu make more sense? A modern shell, rather than dated?

I'm sticking with my insane, alternative entertainment pediction. The swami knows all.
