SAID Goodbye To The Sahara Today!

Went to the Sahara today to say are final goodbyes. Unfortunately,we found out 3 of our favorite bartenders died recently. One just last week. Couldn't believe how much the place has changed we played there. The bars we played at are long gone, aND THE NEW bars are now where the pool was. Didn't even recognize the whole casino, as many changes were made. Took some pictures and signed up for the Sahara Club just to have their ckub card as a memento.
We've gone there twice since finding out it was closing. We had not been there for awhile and were so pleasantly surprised by the changes and wish we had been going more all along. We stopped going once the buffet shut down and they had removed some of the old coin in machines by the gift shop - yes, that was just a little over a year ago. We got some $1.00 and $5.00 chips to save as souveniers, but were limited to only 2 $1.00 chips. The gift shop is only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so could not get any mementos in there, but will probably go back this weekend. They also seem to have put in some machines we really like, whereas before we had been relegated to one little smokey room where the machines we liked to play were. Now those video poker machines are all over. It really a shame they will be closing.
I said goodbye to the Sahara years ago...
As often as I have been in Las Vegas over the years I never even got around to saying hello, just never seemed convenient .

The Sahara was the first casino in Las Vegas that I stayed at back in 1992 and I am sure I visted at least briefly on all 17 trips I went to Las Vegas since then.

Unlike many people I really did like their buffet. It was good food for the money and I always found a good selection.

They always had good specials worth visiting for.

I last visited it this past February.

I will miss it as I miss too the Frontier, Stardust, Westward-Ho, Lady Luck, Vacation Village and so forth.

Hopefully they will re-open it someday.
BAGIANT
Is the 57 chevy still sitting on the bank of slots as you walk in from the Strip? I wonder if they will put it up for sale now that Sahara is closing

I was taking a walk on the north end of the Strip picking up casino chips and stopped in the Sahara. The lady at the cage could not have been nicer, when I told her I wanted a couple of chips for my collection she went in the back and brought out brand new chips.
It had been few years since I had been in the Sahara and they had cleaned the place up since my last visit.
Everytime I see this thread I just keep hearing

"Say hello, wave goodbye" by Soft Cell

Stayed there in the late '80's. Newly renovated suite. Nice...had a great time especially at the Red Dog table. Fond memories!
