They are different. With Gaslamp it's all about the entertainment and hundreds of rrstaurants, proximity to Petco Park. Mission it's all about the ocean.

As far as seeing an overview of the city, I recommend Old Town Trolly Company. A fun way to see the city and learn about its history. When choosing a hotel, be sure to ask about the cost of parking as it can be expensive and should be considered when looking at the cost of a hotel.

I tried checking room prices at Hotel del Coronado but they where sold out that place looks beautiful thanks for the idea

I also tried Catamaran but they would not let me check in on a Friday but that place looks really nice too
