Say It isn't So ! Another Obamacare "Glitch".

Thoughtful people might demand their leadership articulate a better solution to healthcare - especially when their leadership owns both houses of Congress and possesses the ability to (a) form their own healthcare committee (b) craft their own bill (c) score their plan with the CBO (D) present it to the public and run on its merit in a presidential campaign.

Thoughtful people might wonder why it is the entire Republican establishment has completely rejected this approach for the last 8 years. Wouldn't it be nice if the public could have multiple solutions to an issue and use a voting booth to choose which solution they prefer most? Bah! Whatever. Republicans have given their base something far more incentivizing - Bengazhi....and Email-gate......and plenty of Obamacare propaganda to motivate people to start conversations like this thread.

Republicans probably figure if we don't okay the funds to make good on on a so called "provision" then and maybe then, we can shit can this whole mess! It has done very little to help on containing cost and saving families money. Of which of course, our leader promised an average savings of $2500!

The point is, . . . no one has to "shit can the whole mess".

The funding for the Risk Corridor reimbursements was specified in The Obamacare Law. These monies were to come out of the profits of some of the Insurers.
That the profits were insufficient to cover the losses is a result not foreseen by those who drafted The Law; i.e. the Law failed.
The likely reason, . . . The Obama and The Congress wanted to "do something" about uninsured citizens. And so they did. Whatever analysis was performed to estimate the "costs" were, by incompetence or by intention [to "sell" the program to the public], too low.
But the Democrats and a Socialist went ahead anyway, . . . to "do something".

Since the profits came up short The Obama decided to make The Obamacare work he'd have to use other funds. But for the President, f'rinstance The Obama, to spend money the Congress must approve the expenditure. So when The Obama began to spend unauthorized funds, the Congress stepped in and forbade it.

But now things'll work themselves out.
Perhaps there will be insurers who will be able to remain profitable, and The Obamacare may continue.

More likely whether from experiences, e.g. the already failed insurers, or more likely from deeper analyses of the costs vs premiums it will become apparent that the premiums will have to be raised.

It is unlikely that the "customers" can afford this so The Obamacare will simply implode, i.e. the "death spiral" predicted shortly after the Law was passed.
No one has to "shit can" it. Customers won't be able to afford it; insurers won't be able to profit. It will go down as a failed experiment.

The only folks who did not see this coming were folks who did not want to see it.

And if and when the Democrats/Socialists ever become the dominant majority they'll implement complete Government-funded health care for "everyone", . . . everyone except the wealthy who can afford better health care. The citizenry will get the health care The Government decides is best for them, . . . and they will like it, OR ELSE !

I can only hope.

But DonDiego's thread is complaining about what the Democrats/Socialists already did when they became the dominant majority. Notably - his thread is not about an intelligent alternative presented by Obama's free-market champion opponents who certainly have a much better plan for DonDiego to support. The fact that they cant actually say what their plan is doesn't seem to bother DonDiego much. And the fact that the "unpaid for healthcare plan" is 353 billion dollars more beneficial to the deficit than the system that preceded it. doesn't seem to stop DonDiego to complaining about the fiscal irresponsible nature of the law.

And you can bet that's exactly the way Reince Preibus likes it. Republicans don't need to offer an alternative to garner the votes of most of their base. Protesting Democrat solutions is good enough. And I find that to be very sad.

Here is DonDiego's plan:
DonDiego purchases health-insurance for teechur and himself; he makes periodic payments to keep the insurance active. Having paid into Medicare since its inception, DonDiego is now eligible for benefits; he takes them.* To the extent that his insurance does not cover the medical expenses, DonDiego pays the difference out-of-pocket.
If others want health insurance he suggests they comport themselves similarly to poor old DonDiego.

DonDiego's first car was a Plymouth Duster; he paid cash and drove it for 14 years. Now DonDiego drives a 16-year-old Subaru Impreza; he has never made a car payment. DonDiego shops the ads when he does the food shopping; DonDiego makes an effort to get a good price on everything he purchases.

DonDiego puts just about everything that he buys on his charge card, and he receives a small rebate on every purchase, and he pays his balance in full every month. Other than his mortgage, with an interest-rate below 3%, DonDiego has no debt.

DonDiego endeavors to obtain a return on his savings more than a bank account. He spends quite some time in researching investments suitable to his personality.**

DonDiego recommends everyone follow his plan:
To do so one must start early.
One might apply oneself, as DonDiego did, in High School not just to get into College, but to actually learn something.
Oh and since the age of 15 DonDiego has always had a job until he retired and never spent all his money, . . . ever.
And then with or without a College Degree, . . . DonDiego recommends with, . . . find oneself a job and apply oneself to earn a decent living and benefits like medical insurance until one can retire comfortably, . . . or for the next 40 or 50 years whichever comes first.
Stay thrifty.

If everyone cannot follow DonDiego's plan, he'd still advise them to do the best they can, . . . so as to avoid dependence upon others, especially because some of those others may not be contributing voluntarily but by force of Law, and that is simply not fair to them.
DonDiego finds Government compulsion disagreeable; it cost him 3½-years in the military.

n.b. Of particular importance is that DonDiego's plan is not compulsory; no one is being compelled by Law to comply; it is purely voluntary. If one chooses to follow it there is a chance that they will prosper; if one chooses not to, there is still a chance, . . . but pr'bly less likely.

*DonDiego would have chosen not to participate in Medicare if he had had that option; but it was compulsory.
**The stock market returns of 2016 are by far DonDiego's best ever, and the year is still young.

Life is Good.

ok - so the DonDiego alternative to Obamacare is no plan at all - but rather the public should just follow in the footsteps of his inspirational biography. Everyone buy a Plymouth Duster and be Thrifty!...and hope your insurance company doesn't rescind your policy when you get sick (presuming you can afford insurance in the first place).

Like I said - Democrats had a thoughtful (and thoroughly flawed) plan to address national healthcare in our Country. Republicans didn't (and don't). We don't have a debate between two thoughtful solutions to a problem. We have a debate between one thoughtful solution and storybook time on Sesame Street. And I think that's sad for everyone.

pjstroh has a low threshold for "inspirational".

Poor old DonDiego supposes he hasn't really set a particularly high mark. Work for a living. Buy what one can afford. Avoid depending on others, once one's been weaned.
Sorta like in the Good Old Days.

DonDiego supposes pjstroh's plan might involve mandatory taxation of those who endeavor to follow DonDiego's plan under penalty of incarceration and distribution to whomever The Government deems worthy.
That's sad for everyone, except those deemed worthy.

Perhaps pjstroh underestimates what others are capable of. If DonDiego can do it, . . . well, jes' 'bout anybody ought'a be able to.
Work hard and end up in Appalachia, the place they use to scare little school kids.
I'm inspired.
What a horrible plan. Work hard, watch costs, and take care of you and your own. Unspeakable.

You've watched Deliverance too many times. Beautiful and peaceful up in the mountains. Or one can choose to live in the midst of concrete, strip malls and lots and lots of people.
