Seeing red: Protesters call attention to genetically modified food

Protestors Show Off Their Signs

This is one of those questions that the market should decide.

But Monsanto wants to make it illegal to require labeling of GMO foods, so the public will be incapable of making informed decisions on the matter. Evil.
I agree, we should know what the he** we're eating.

Yet many people feel those genetically modified foods can lead to health problems.

So what's wrong with that? And what health problems have actually been identified? Is the food modified or the seed, or both?

Did they really mean "resist insecticides and herbicides" because that doesn't sound like it computes with "add nutrititional benefits and improve crop yields."

I'm asking in all seriousness because I don't know and this is confusing as stated.

Monsanto makes genetically modified seeds that produce plants that are resistant to Roundup herbicide. Farmers can spray their fields with Roundup and kill all the weeds and all the other plants except the resistant plants grown from the seeds from Monsanto. This allows the farmers to control the weeds better and improve crop yields and use less chemicals and have cleaner run off water.

There are some reports of the weeds developing resistance to Roundup.

Ignorance is strength.

Ignorance IS strength for Monsanto. That's why they want to keep the public in the dark by preventing the labeling of GMO foods. For some reason, they are afraid of an informed public.

Although I usually follow the "show me the facts" credo, there are some things that I just feel are wrong without any evidence to prove it. This is one of those cases - it just seems to go against nature. And on the flipside, there's also no proof that it WON'T cause human health problems years, or generations, down the line.

I'm certainly no tree-hugging hippy-dippy, but I'd prefer to stick with what mother nature has taken millions of years to produce, thank you very much.
