Found her. She was texting from her new number which I didn't have yet. I had my phone on the charger when I went to bed. When I got up at 1:15 am, I had 3 text messages all from her. I decided to call her when I got back to bed, and she answered. Seems like she was sick and took some Nyquil and slept for almost a day. Wish I could do that. She's still up in LA with her friend, and will be back today.
Anyway, now I have to reschedule her Harrah's visit and she has to reschedule her SSI appointment. As far as her rehab goes, it's a walk in type of deal. I guess she'll get counselors when she gets there. She'll probably be there for 3 months.
Yes, I must be having that "damsel in distress syndrome" and feel I must help her. I know that no one else is going to do it.
But believe me, I was really worried and called the Highway Patrol and local police stations to see if she had been in an accident. I also checked the "Who's in Jail" website to see if G-d forbid she had been arrested again. And "no" she wasn't on a bender before she went to rehab. I think she's really trying to straighten out her life.
I feel everyone deserves a 2nd chance, and sometimes they need a little outside help. If I didn't help her, I hate to think of the position that she'd be in right now. She would have lost her truck and most of the worldly possessions that she had inside, and possibly my laptop. Last Thursday I drove her to Barstow and back so she could plead not guilty to that DUI charge when she was returning to Vegas. While in court, every DUI case that the judge announced, he mentioned the amount of blood alcohol after he announced it was a DUI. For example, "Joe Smith, you are charged with DUI with a blood level of 1.2. How do you plead?"
When Sharlene's name was called, he said, "you are charged with DUI, how do you plead?" He never mentioned her alcohol level, because she blew 0.0. I really don't think that they have any case since she was stopped and out of the car when the Sheriff and CHP arrived. A good samaritan had called in that she was weaving on the road. As far as drugs go, she only had prescription medication in her system, and she has a prescription for that medication. I think the Public Defender can get the case dismissed.
