Shootings in schools, movie theatres,malls and now casinos.Sad society we live in.

This is exactly how we want it to be.

On an average day, 35 people are murdered with guns in America, about 60% of the daily homicide total. Another 48 die every day in gun suicides.

We could reduce both, we know how, using obvious, easy techniques practiced in civilized countries the world over. But we don't want to.

Accepting this carnage is just part of being American.

It is my understanding that this was a murder/suicide situation that was the result of some sort of domestic dispute. Not to say that the same sort who shoots up schools and malls wouldn't shoot up a casino, but this was not the same thing at all

Of course the VI has to chime in with the usual BS, that crap can wait til later...

I don't see the shootings as "society we live in."

These largely involve wrongly wired individuals with some sort of vengence on their mind. Their acts are not committed on the basis of a societal norm.

I can't imagine what possible "obvious easy techniques practiced in civilized countries all over the world" would prevent individual, unpredictable, derranged acts of personal vengence. Valium in every municipal water supply, perhaps?

That's just code for saying we shouldn't talk about changing our gun laws. But sociopaths who in the past might have beat up or even stabbed their women can now shoot them. And lone nut with a lone gun can now easily be armed with multiple assault weapons. Who could have predicted?...

All so some cowards can be prepared for their Charles Bronson vigilante fantasies, others can prepare for their paranoid black helicopter government fantasies, and still others can get hard thinking about the size of their clip. And now the obituaries of 20 little children can say they were murdered by a "well regulated militia." So like jatki says, shhhhh! - let's not talk about changing anything.

Seems that any kind of death or accident in or around a casino doesn't get much coverage. Bad for business.

This is one of the unfortunate drawbacks of living in a "free" society. If you don't like it then why don't you move to one of your "civilized" countries. You can't have it both ways, america was built on a free society and guns has always been a part of american culture.
