Short trip report and some general observations about the current status of Vegas

I stayed on Waikiki in Hawaii for over $500 a night. Thanks company expense account and it was full of homeless and a tranny in a head to toe banana yellow one piece unitary outside the hotel. Homeless are going to be anywhere they can get money from people dumb enough to give it to them. And I say that as a social worker. We have public agencies and programs to help mentally ill and people of need for a reason. To protect both them and the public. As for Fremont. I have volunteered at the soup kitchen down there and maybe 2 people were not "if need". Most did have mental illness and other real issues. I do not say that for most on the corners.

Again, my hometown is/was "'Mayberry" and we now have homeless, parking lot beggars and scammers and soup kitchens. This is not something that remotely existed as a child. We also maybe had a murder once a decade. We now have maybe 5 a year and dead bodies od'd in the alley and cops finding bodies in trunks during speed checks. It is our society, not Vegas. Just watched the movie Woodlawn. It depicted Alabama in the 70s post segregation. I recommend people make the connection and watch the movie. Our country needs sense and healing.
I realize that I can ignore them and walk on. It just isn't fun to come across so many of them. Here in Pasadena, they have finally started to outlaw people from panhandling at freeway off ramps, by putting up signs stating "No street solicitation".

I have a friend from Eureka and they have a homeless problem up there. They have offered to shelter these people (tent city) and to feed them, but most of them want no help and are unwilling to relocate. The ACLU up there is now trying to make it illegal for the police to remove the homeless from being in front of businesses. I told him it is time to offer free rides and relocate these guys to the homes of all of the politicians and ACLU people who supported this. What business owner wants someone sleeping and going to bathroom in front of their business?

By the way, when I was buying my bottle of vodka at the Albertson's. There was a homeless guy who purchased two very large cans of beer. Your panhandling dollars most of the time are not going towards buying food.

As opposed to any other city or town. I went to the festival in my "Mayberry" town and was afraid to walk a block. I did think I was going to get stabbed by a group of kids on a church front step. Heroin has taken over everywhere. Vegas may have weirdos but then you have been very sheltered in the rest of the country. I am aware of my surrounding at all times and make good "college rules" choices as I explain to other young women. Look behind and beside you at all times, walk With another group to your car if alone, etc. but here we are on camera and have more security and police than anywhere in America. I often, unnecessarily, have a security guard walk me to my car if I find that I stayed out too long alone. No charge and no problem. Where else can you get an escort to your car. As for homeless, again I don't think you are looking much in your everyday life. The entire country is not looking pretty or stable. It does not reflect Vegas alone or differently. Now do the time shares and porn slappers annoy the hell out of me. Yes! But again you get accosted by people demanding to put lotion on you in the regular mall. It is the world we live in, not Vegas and while I am not voting for trump. I agree with him that the pc'ness and stupidity of our country is at an all time high. I mean we can't tell people to not wear their pants with their ass hanging out. We can't tell people they are actually the gender they are. It is not a debate. You have a penis. God made you a boy. Take t up with him not me. But we just discussed on another thread the Erin Andrews peeping tom. I would prefer to not have a free for all in the bathroom, the only place without cameras. Yes, people are going to do bad things but laws at least keep us aware and alert to watch for them. And a man in the bathroom is going to let me know he is probably up to no good. Maybe I should start calling my arms legs because it is my right too and sue the world for discrimination and my freedoms. From now on you must agree with me or go to jail and get sued financially. So to me, all this has left one unstable general public. Stop the nonsense of making it "discrimination" if you have common sense and I bet we'd have a healthier society.

Sorry I missed this post Daisy. Pretty well written and I like it.
Thanks for the love. I feel increasingly upset at the status of our country. And then think I am too young to be so curmudgeon. Lol. Election time and that nastiness doesn't help. The divide and disgrace in our country is sad and pathetic at the same time. And I am obviously a very patriotic Midwest American with generations of men serving our country. So it pains me to not be waving my flag in pride and adoration. I just opened a "surprise" bill for my 100% covered doctors appointment (it was only $23 but not the point) as the news just covered this topic. We have no truth or integrity right now and this election coverage and that negativity doesn't help. Our country is a mess. Or I have just become an old curmudgeon grumpy old person (who is not old. Lol).

Had our annual safety/security meeting with the police at work. I work for a drug wholesaler. He was asked about the street/offramp beggars. He said that 98% are drug addicts and or alcoholics, and he meets with them trying to get them into the social programs they have available. He strongly suggested anyone that gives money to these folks to stop as you are only enabling their addictions. He said if you want to help donate to the programs and charities that try to help these folks.

WOW. That part about being "an old crumdgeon" rings so incredibly true for me also. I really have to stand back in the third person and ask myself, "am i just being the older guy who screams GET OFF MY LAWN!"? and occasionally I am so I have to reassess things but most often I feel I'm just using common sense and "rules" of being a decent person. Everyone needs to take a step back on occasion and do an assessment of themselves, it helps keep things in perspective, well IMVHO opinion anyway.

When Trump takes over and the Obama nightmare ends things will turn around for the better.

Totally! Things were so much better on January 19, 2009.
Well. I do have to say that my husband had been at his job for 13 years and was awoken by his ringing phone and blindsided with "you have been downsized". So yes, I would have to say that 2009 was a more stable year. He has been downsized twice since then. We have the crappiest insurance I have ever heard of and have been contractors for years. Often changing jobs 2/3 times a year. We have cops assassinated at lunch at a pizzeria. My small hometown has turned into a heroin capital. We are trillions more in debt. Racial tensions are at 1960 levels. Cops are demonized and can't do their job. Our country is deeply divided on domestic issues. So yes, I'd say that we were much better off in 2009.

1) daisybasket sounds kind of awesome

2) I love that Roulette goes to the Oyster Bar at SP and gets clam chowder. That too is awesome

3) I have no need to walk the strip or go anywhere near it. The exception to this is going to be next year when my daughter turns 21 and I have to show her all the crap that the vegas virgins go see. However, I refuse to pay for a hotel ON THE STRIP when I can get free suites at South Point

4) My trips to LV look a lot like "Leaving Las Vegas" only with more gambling.
