Should Donald get a participation trophy?

The rules are pretty clear. You must secure X amount of delegates to win the nomination.
If no one has that number on the first ballot, then they start over on the second ballot with a clean slate.
Donald and many of his supporters think that if they come close, they should be awarded the prize.

Isn't this just an example of the participation trophy mentality they abhor? If Donald is hundred votes short of winning by the rules why does he get a big trophy when Ted was only a hundred short of Donalds total?
Marco won three states, and gave up his day job to try. Surely he deserves an A for effort. It hardly seems fair Donny and Rafey get trophies and he doesn't. Jebs family and friends spent a lot of money to get him in the race.
doesn't that count for anything?
James Garfield got the Republican nomination in 1880 and wasn't even seeking the nomination. On the 36th ballot at the convention he was selected and went on to win the general election. There's a long way to go before Hillary is declared the winner. Who knows, maybe a better/more electable candidate will come from the convention. Hopefully they won't get shot 6 months later like Garfield.
