Sadly I have a true one.

Went in one day to see my boss who had just had his office refurnished. He is standing by the lamp complaining that it doesn't turn on & asked for my assistance. I said sure, reached down and plugged the wire into the socket & like magic it went on.

Hoops, You should have told him, "That will be relfected in your next review".

I have a similar one as hoops.

Our department secretary is a real hard *ss, thinks she knows everything and can do a better job than anyone else, including the computer techs as she has a computer at home and knows her way around the computer (her words). She comes by one day complaining that her computer is broken and we have to order a new computer for her. We go over to her desk, reach down and click on the power strip and press the button on the computer. the computer starts booting up. Her response; "I always just press the button on the computer and it comes up, I didn't even know there was a power strip down there.

She comes by a half hour later, "my printer isn't working". Again we go over to look at her setup. Then we click on the ON switch on the printer. It instantly starts warming up.

We all had a good laugh about the know it all. At least she stopped grumbling that the techies are overpaid and that she knows just as much as them.

I remember this from 1965 when the Northeast US was blacked out. My Uncle tells the story about how his secretary was haing trouble with her IBM Selectric. (Anyone old enough to remember these? They were so sensitive that you just had to look at the keys to make them jump!) She was unplugging it and plugging it back in several times trying to get it to work. Finally he said to her, "having trouble?" And she answered "one more try." As she put the plug back in the wall everything went black. My Uncle says to her -- "see what you did."
