Shrimp Hunt in the Desert

In Today's (07-08-11) News on the LVA home page there is a short blub on a shrimp farm. The post includes the following:

Las Vegas consumes around 90 percent of all shrimp eaten in the world and most of it is imported from Southeast Asia and China.

I know that tons of shrimp get eaten in Las Vegas, but 90%? That seems really high. If true that is one piece of jumbo trivia.

You beat me to the punch. I would venture to guess that the US might not even be the top consumer of shrimp in the world, let alone Las Vegas.
When I'm in Vegas you can actually measure the level of the oceans dropping from all of the shrimp and crab that has to be harvested.
Unless all the residents & tourists are G. C. I really doubt the 90% fact.

Have them run out when Edwards lake bed is flooded, they should be able to snag a few hundred million of shrimp at a time. Look for the shark fin at the side of the road and scoop away.
I ate a dozen in early May at the MGM. Perhaps that is effecting the global percentages?
Tommy,

Your dozen might have been the tipping point.

How the heck are you Tom, it has been a long time since we hung out at MSS and played Hold'm at Bellagio. I'm glad we had that fine diner at the Center Stage at the Plaza, since it is now gone for good.
I hope you have been well.
