Silverton- Day 8

So I'm dead to the world and all of a sudden this was going to be the secnd time in two days that I awoke to a horrible leg cramp. Now I don't know if it was a coincidense or not, but when it happened the day before, and then again today, the same exact commercial was playing on TV. Could it be that this commercial was causing my leg cramp? Nah! That couldn't be possible could it? Now I don't know what the commercial was for...or about...but it had all these business men hiding under a desk. What they were hiding from was beyond me as I was groaning in pain in my calf. Guess I'll have to try some of Faye's potassium pills. She's the one who usually winds up wuith cramps in her legs.

Anyway, I grabbed the cell phone to see what time it was, and it was just past 7:30 am. I had some time before I would meet with sheltie and her other half so I rolled back over to catch 40 winks.

First the phone was ringing for my 9 am wake up call, followed by shelties call to make sure we were still on for breakfast, and would 9:30 be OK. As far as I was concerned...it could just as well be for 1 pm. But I rolled out of bed, brushed my teeth, combed my hair and started to get dressed. Although I had the buffet the night before, I was starving, and French Toast and bacon started to sound real good. I grabbed my Keno ticket as I headed out the door. Each morning at breakfast I pick 6 numbers for 5 games at $1 a game, and one ticket for 80 plays at $1 each. Hopefully I would hit a 6 spot to collect $1500 on one of the 80 games. That would take the sting out of the $2000 loss.

AS I reached the Sundance Grill, there was a crowd of people waiting to get seated. I smiled as I knew my Diamond card woould get me immediately seated. The manager was acting as host that morning. I flashed him my Diamond card, and he handed me one of those buzzers that would notify you when you table was ready. I gave him a quizical look like....what the heck was this for? He told me there were 4 Diamond card holders ahead of me. He said if I was on the other list, there would be 40 people ahead of me. So I gave him a "gift" and headed to the bar with the buzzer. At that moment Patty called me to find out where I was. I told her I was headed to the bar to wait and be called. As I walked up the isle, I could see Patty on the cell telling me she saw me. Wouldn't hurt to start the day with a Bloddy Mary, and for me a tomato juice. I like to down my meds and vitamins with a glass of tomato juice. Before the bartender could even start mixing the drinks, my buzzer started going off in my hand. I guess the "gift" worked as it couldn't have been 5 minutes before we were called. Patty and Chick waited for the drinks to be poured while I got the table. I had asked for Lucy's area sincwe I hadn't been at her station yet for breakfast. I went back to get sheltie and Chick to show them where we were seated.

When we were all seated, I spotted the Keno runner and she came right to the table. I handed her my 80 play ticket from the day before, and asked her to bring all large bills. I told them about the story of when I first started playing multiple games of Keno. The first time I played, the next morning I stopped at the Keno stand to see if I won anything. When she scanned the ticket, no amount appeared, just a message, BIG WINNER CONTACT MAIN LOUNGE, or something like that. Turns out that anything over a $100 win sends out that message. I had won $160. Next day same thing happened, but it was for a $140 win. So when the Keno runner took so long to get back to the table, I assumed that maybe for ONCE I had made a major score. When she finally arrived at our table and took out a $100 bill, I was ready to have plenty more counted out in my awaiting palm. Well out came a 10 and a 5 and that was it. Oh well, at least it was a $35 win. I made out two more tickets for $80 and $5, and hoped that one of these days the BIG ONE would finally hit.

Looks like French Toast was the order of the day as all three of had that oderd. Chick had his with a side order of eggs over easy, Patty had hers with strawberries and whipped cream, and I had mine with bacon. Our coffee arrived...good old Starbucks...and we took up where we left off yesterday. This time we were talking about our dogs and how we both had lost our favorites, my Gypsy and her Tammy around the same time. She remembered reading my thread about " I Lost My Gypsy Rose Today" and how it wasn't soon after she lost her Tammy. For som reason we got to talking about traffic tickets. Why I don't know, but we each got a laugh out of everyones story.

When we finished breakfast, I told them I wouldn't be able to sit at the machines with them and play for a while as I was totally exhausted and my hip was just killing me. So we said our goodbyes with hopes of meeting again some time in the future. I really wanted to spend more time with them, but I I didn't get some sleep, I would miss the Kentucky Derby, and there was a horse I wanted to bet since it described our household....Animal Kingdom. Faye also liked the same horse.

When I got back upstairs, I got on the laptop for a few minutes to finish off yesterday TR. While I'm typing, my cell starts ringing that I have text message. I read the message quickly and it was from one of my offshore sportsbooks telling me that their expert handicapper was telling everyone to bet Animal Kingdom. They had to be shitting me. I finished my report and headed straight to bed, but not before throwing some money on Animal Kingdom across the board at one of my offshore books. It was now near noon and sleep couldn't come soon enough. I never left a wake up call so I wouldn't miss the derby, but I couldn't possibly sleep that long...could I?
I would have plenty of time to go downstairs and place more bets before the race started. It wasn't going off until about 3:30 our time.

Next thing I knew, the cell phone was ringing with another text message. It was that offshore book texting me to say that Animal Kingdon had WON. WTF! What the hell time was it anyway? Cell phone showed it was 4:06 pm. I couldn't believe it. I hadn't missed a KD since I was a kid. I wondered what the horse had paid, but just didn't have the strength to get online and find out. It wouldn't be until after 7 pm that I would finally get out of bed. Boy, that wasn't like me at all. She woke up at about the same time, cursing me that she had missed the KD. I was pissed that I didn't have more money on the horse and hooked it up to an exacta and trifecta like I did last year.

We then talked about what we were doing for dinnerand we both agreed that we would play a while and then maybe eat at the Sundance Grill. We got dressed and made our way downstairs. The bar was wide open for a Saturday night and we got our usual end seats. The jackpot was nearing $5600. Faye couldn't hit a lick while my machine, while not hitting anything big, was keeping me above the $100 mark. When she had lost half her money, she came up with 4 deuces for a $200 jackpot. She cashed out when she hit the $200 mark and it was our first TITO of the night. I finally connected with 4 6's playing DDB and cashed out at $300. At this point we should have cashed in and gone to dinner, but we decided to take out a salad and shrimp cocktail from Twin Creeks. While we were at the bar, this DJ came on and was playing music at a decible level that would make my dogs howl. It was very hard on the ears. I was sooo lousd that it drove Faye upstairs even though hewr machine was giving her a good play. She cashed out at $300 and her son's GF walked her upstairs. I was soon to follow as I wasa really tired. How I'm typiong out this report right now is beyond me.

We wound up losing $200 for the night which would now bring us to even for our Silverton stay. It's now pushing 2 am and I can already see I won't be waking up anytime soon unless that "cramp" commercial is playing again in the 7 am time frame. Goodnight all.
Congratulations on the KD win!!! Even though you missed watching the race.
Hope the leg cramp is gone and you get some good rest. Nice you got to meet up with Sheltie, twice!
I'm enjoying all your reports. Thanks for writing.
We had a great time with you. Seemed like old friends. Hope to meet up with you guys again. The Sun dance Grill has really great breakfast. I must say we had some great laughs! Hope your leg is feeling better.
Congrats on the Derby hit, nice call. Hope you have a chance to read this. About your cramps. I used to get them from time to time at home, but more frequently on my LV trips. My buddy works at a golf course and co-worker had the same problem with the heat. My doctor comfirmed when I got home. Hydration, hydration, hydration! Especially if your having drinks, which will dehydrate you. Start the day with a bottle and repeat as often as you can. When having a cocktail, be sure to order a water along with it so you're preplacing what you lose. I always load up for a couple of days before a trips and maintain while I'm there. I do the same at home and the cramps have all but disappeared. When one occurs, I can usually look back on a day that I didn't have much water.

Good Luck!

Yes, you are so right! Alcohol causes dehydration. Also if I eat too much salt the same thing will happen.

When it does occur, I drink a couple glasses of water right away. The pain does ease up after a few minutes.

I learned about this on a short golf trip to Laughlin. We had played that morning and got checked in to the hotel. I was little tired so I layed down on my bed for a short nap. I awoke to the sounds of a Mariner ballgame on the tube. I tried rolling over to watch and felt a painfull cramp in my right leg. Long and short is Bob told me to drink a bottle of water. I got about half of it down and within ten minutes all pain was gone. Bob learned this from one of his coworkers at the course. Another minor help as the cramp is occuring is to stretch your calf by pointing your toes toward your head. This helps some. Don't point them down though as it will make it worse.

Good Luck!
