Silverton Questions

Hi,
I am going to Las Vegas in early June. I usually stay at the Orleans and Bill's but this time I'm trying something new. Four nights at the Orleans and four nights at Silverton. I visited Silverton on my last trip and it was nice. They sent me an offer for a discounted room so I booked one (I will have a car).
I really enjoy Bagiant's trip reports and he seems to be the expert on all things Silverton. Maybe he can answer these questions but I invite others to give their input too.

1. Should I request a certain nonsmoking floor/room?
2. Does the casino/hotel seem safe at night? (I know they found a dead man in their parking garage not long ago but I'm assuming that can happen anywhere)
3. What are some of the highlights of the Friday night seafood buffet?(other than crab).
4. How is the Mexican restaurant?
5. Is the valet quick or is it just easier to self-park?
6. What are good things to order at the Sundance Grill? I know Bagiant likes the french toast, ham and eggs Benedict at breakfast.( I don't like pork or beef entrees)
7. Do you think they will let me check in around noon on a Friday?
8. Did any of you try the fish and chips at the Mermaid Bar?
9. Do they have the latest loud, money sucking penny machines as well as old favorites like Stinkin Rich?
10. What is the best route from the Silverton to return my car at the airport rental facility?
11. Do they have safe deposit boxes at the cashier's cage for hotel guests? (I don't like leaving valuables/money in the room)
Aloha,
Jennifer
I can only give you my input on a couple of things; I stayed there just once, and would recommend that you might want to ask for a room near the elevator. We stayed in a room that seemed like it was miles away from the elevator !

As far as food in the Sundance Grill, they used to have a steak and eggs special that was really good. The price has gone up, but I would recommend it , though I just now realized that you don't want beef dishes. The only thing I have ordered there that was a disappointment was a quesadilla (should have gone to the Mexican restaurant for that.).

We have also eaten at the Mexican restaurant and thought that it was very, very good, if I remember correctly we had tacos and chile rellenos and both were excellent. They serve three types of salsa with their chips, and all were good.

Best of luck on your upcoming trip !

Hi,
I am going to Las Vegas in early June. I usually just stay at the Orleans but this time I'm splitting my time between there and the Silverton. I visited there on my last trip and it seemed pretty neat. They sent me an offer for discounted rooms so I decided to book four nights (I will have a car).

If you made your reservation through a host, tell them you want an early check in. If not, telephone and "request" an early check in. Most hotels are happy to accomodate the request if a room is available. Often, they will rent "your" room last, keeping it vacant overnight if the request is noted. I've checked into 4 Queens, Binion's, Plaza and others, all well before 10 am. In other destinations, I've checked into a room at 7:30 am!

Your personal safety correlates to your awareness of your surroundings, alertness, and willingness for risk avoidance. Good "habits" anywhere will help ensure personal "safety". I'm not going to go into a "victim avoidance" lecture, but will say that a person's who eliminates risk, or reduces opportunities to be victimized will always be safer than someone who does not. "Criminals" pray on the weak and unaware. They will spot and follow. So, don't ever "flash cash", etc.

And there is nothing wrong about asking security to escort you to your car, room, etc. That's what they are there for, and should be willing, as long as it is a destination "on property".

I can not address your other questions.

good luck

Madcat and I have stayed there and we enjoyed it. The Twin Creeks is also excellent and very inexpensive against comparable restaurants. I hope you enjoy your trip!!

I was at Silverton once. I don't recall a parking garage, just a very large parking lot like you'd see at a big Wal-mart or amusement park. We just parked and walked. It wasn't nothing. The casino seemed very safe. People talk about Silverton and Sam's Town like they are comparable but I think Silverton is much nicer.

Silverton is pretty close to the car rental place. I'd just head up the strip and follow the signs.

I think they will let you check in around noon on Friday. If they don't, you can blame me. I won't do anything about it at least you'll have someone to blame.
snidely 333; They now have a parking garage. There have been lots of other changes since your last visit. Some good and some bad.
We've been to the Friday buffet. I'm not a fish eater, so can't rate it, but can tell you that my husband loves it...especially the crab and the clam chowder. We also thought they had a good salad selection, an assortment of soups that were very good, and the home made ice cream is outstanding. k
Wow! Thanks for all the helpful advice. I'm looking forward to staying at the Silverton. One thing I forgot to ask is, do they have safe deposit boxes at the cashier's cage?
I don't care for leaving my valuables/money in the safe provided in the room.
Aloha,
Jennifer
