Simple Ways to Personalize Your Hotel Room

What I would like to have is the GIZMO, for lack of the correct term, that Housekeeping uses to prop OPEN the room door while they clean the room. I think Bellmen also use this when they bring a load of bags in our out of a room.

Hotel room doors are very heavy and designed to [slam] shut behind us no matter what. It takes acts of acrobatics to get luggage in, or out, to keep the door from closing while dragging luggage in and out.

Nice article, though.
Nice read, blondie =)

Extension cord is a great idea. Seems like the only place you can find an outlet in hotel rooms anymore is in the bathroom....they'll hide another one behind the bed or dresser somewhere which requires you to move a heavy piece of furniture or contort your body into some weird position to reach. They dont like guests using electricity =)

I've also learned to bring a nail clipper. Seems like I always need it by day 5.
I travel by plane and always pack my own pillow and a travel coffee pot and mug. So just because you take a plane doesn't mean you can't have your own pillow. I also take a small soft cooler and I use that in the room. . A small bottle of Febreeze also gets rid of smells and it doesn't leave a scent behind.

I agree with you I don't unpack , I use packing pods and love them.

Good tip on the USB port on the TV! My wife also brings along a coffee maker - the Black and Decker Brew and Go model is nice because it is small and lightweight and there is no glass pot or coffee filter. This paid for itself in one trip! One other tip if you rent a car it to bring a cigarette lighter charger for your iPhone as well.
Thanks for reading guys!
I used to do the coffeepot thing too but I got lazy. Also trying to pack and smaller lighter suitcase.

Swist I can't believe you still pack a pillow! LOL

O2...I know what you mean about that struggle to get in the door. Another good reason to pack light...the less stuff you have to wrangle in the door..the better.
I have a friend that would always put a personalized greeting for voice mail on the in-room phone. and yes, those small soft-sided coolers are handee-dandee in Vegas.
I have thought of bringing brighter light bulbs for the crappy bathroom lighting. Very common!
I'll just switch the bulbs around. Old people don't do well in the dark.
A cooler is a GREAT idea for the rooms that does not provide a little reefer.
Praticality,here.
Extention cord? YES.
Didn't think of that one.

HOUSEKEEPING:

Leave a tip for housekeeping an ask for something. It may appear.I tip, anyway.Extra pillow is always a good one.TV in bed is a true luxury for me. Then, life is good.

Like a pocket knife,not ammo.Maybe a lighter or a vape refill.Water is a good request.

Free coupons? They prolly have some. A LOT of them. Good way to spend an entire afternoon cruising for freebes.

What the hotel room needs is just a little something that makes it feel like your own room,at home. ++:

What is missing? A BIG screen computer monitor(or 2) and a REAL keyboard. That is what I miss the most.
I could write my entire TR with those tools. Yeah, they are downstairs, but I wanna smoke too.

Thanks for the post.
Excellent topic. I think most people think about how relaxing the vacation will be without considering what might also make them more comfortable. When I went a lot, I always kept my shave kit "full" of all the basics. Always hated to get there and find I needed this or that. This included a real bar of soap as opposed to the minis in most hotels. I also got into the habit of packing light bulbs. In over 60 trips I've found sufficient light in a handful of rooms. You can also pack a sleep mask for rooms with shutters and chip clip for those drapes that don't quite close.
Before your next trip, take a few minutes and think of items that might have made your stay better.

Good Luck!
