site? off topic

just FYI, I was in vegas last week and signed up for a bass pro bank of america visa charge card. No annual fees. I just received my new cc but bank of america also sent me my credit score. is 850 a good rating? kidding.

anyway I only signed up for the charge card because Bass pro gave me a 10% or something discount on my first purchase (bought a range finder). but now that I know that it is a bank of america charge card I will probably cancel it in a few months. I have my mortgage with bank of america and those f*ck ups keep screwing it up, getting hassles every so often, they gave me a lot of hassles earlier this year, they wanted me to take out additional hazard insurance even though my condo already has the standard hazard insurance. even though I got in touch with the condo management company and they gave bank of america the hazard information b of a started sending me a bill, saying they will be charging me for "their" insurance, which amounted to almost $1000 a month! After getting both b of a and my condo management company on the line at the same time I finally got it all straightened out but the next month I still got the bill again, but also with late charge penalties. I again checked with b of a and they finally took care of cancelling "their" insurance but I have had nothing but problems with these guys. It's just too bad that many mortgage companies are selling their mortgages to b of a and we have to deal with these guys but I want nothing more to do with these guys.

anyway, just saying that you may be able to get a b of a charge card with no annual fee and they will send you your credit score at no charge.

I also take out my annual credit report from all 3 companies, as others have said I usually take out the report every 4 months from one different company at a time. You can take out one free report from each company once a year so I have it staggered so I get the reports every 4 months. That way I know exactly what is going on with my credit every 4 months. unfortunately they don't give you your credit score (you have to sign up for their plan if you want your credit score) but at least I can see what's going on with my credit.

I hear tons of people say that they really really hate Bank of America but in the 20 years I've been with them I've never really had a problem with them except for the F'd up way they designed their drive-through. However, you will probably get a way better deal from a credit union.

you should count yourself lucky. I think the problems are more on the mortgage side. they keep changing the way they handle their mortgages. Their changed it so their mortgage branch was a separate entity, then recently changed it back to something else. In the process the new entities (during both changeovers) changed their procedures or screwed up the information and so starting sending out mail threatening forclosures and other stuff for information they should have had but wasn't transferred over.

The problem is that bank of america buys mortgage packages from other companies and so even if you get a mortgage through a credit union unless you specifiy (and probably pay more or have higher interest rates) they will probably sell your mortgage to a company like bank of america.

After these incidents I refuse to do business with b of a.
