Obamacare's big overhead costs to top $270B

"Obamacare is set to add more than a quarter-of-a-trillion—that's trillion—dollars in extra insurance administrative costs to the U.S. health-care system, according to a new report out Wednesday. (Tweet this)

The $273.6 billion in additional insurance overhead represents an average of of $1,375 per newly insured person, per year, from 2012 through 2022.

The overhead cost equals a whopping 22.5 percent of the total estimated $2.76 trillion in all federal government spending for the Affordable Care Act programs during that time, the authors of the report in the journal Health Affairs noted..."

Not surprised at all. From YOUR source, jatki:

"The large amount of spending devoted to administrative costs both in dollar terms and as a percentage of total ACA spending is a reflection of Obamacare's 'use of private health insurance for most of the coverage expansion,' said Woolhandler. Private insurance, she said, is 'associated with high overhead costs.'"

Medicare, which cuts out private health insurance companies, is incredibly efficient. Liberals, as you may recall, wanted a single payer system like that. America's Worst Generation, our seniors, loved their government supplied health care insurance, but didn't want to share.

Hey at this point, I'd welcome a model based on Canada's healthcare system. Didn't Alan post on here once that it was only a few pages long, and took no time to implement? The few Canadians I've met kinda laughed at our healthcare system and said how easy and convenient there's was.
While I do think everyone should have insurance available to them, Obama went about it in the absolute worst way possible, good intentions, but it fucked everything up. Soon to be premiums people won't be able to afford, let alone the massive deductibles. But hey they're insured, right Forky?

I think another solution would be to scrap Obamacare return to a private insurance makt. and for those who don't qualify to be privately insured, start a Govt. sponsored insurance program similar to FEMA's flood insurance program. Make healthcare insurance available to those who are uninsurable at a cheap rate. It would have to be cheaper than this boondoggle that we have now.

Actually this is why we can't buy into a single payer program, saving a potential quarter trillion dollars. Aren't "centrists" great!

HUH?
I also highly doubt the US congress could come up with something so simple as 2-3 page healthcare system. I bet it would be more like two-three thousand pages with plenty of folks dipping there greedy little hands into it somehow. Too bad.
We really coukld do away with this whole fiasco and get things going, but there's too much of "The other side" attitude that will ever make that happen.

Medicare has a minuscule 2% overhead according to YOUR source, jatki. Without opposition from the Worst Generation, we'd have that for everyone.

GEEZ..I know medicare has a 2% overhead, that's part of what I found astounding about the ACA overhead, it's absurd, along with the rest of the ACA. Why do ypu keep repeating that? Also, why in the world do you keep saying one of the best generations ever is the "worlds' worst generation" Got me puzzled on that one.
