SNAP (Food Stamp) money funneled to Yemen? (Probably POL)

I wonder if this is just the tip of the iceberg with respect to fraud in the SNAP system. I don't understand why I must show a state issued ID to pay for food at WalMart with a check or to board an airplane, but an ID is not needed for a SNAP transaction or to vote.

Seems really easy to solve this problem.

This has been going on for years. Go to the inner city and you find that most of the "mom and pop" stores are owned by people from the middle-east(Arabs).
It is a known fact that many people from the middle east come to the US and they go right the the inner city(the ghetto) and set up stores, just to defraud the government with food stamp scams.
This has been going on since the 60's. I have always wondered how much of this money is being sent back to the middle east to fund terrorists.
The bad thing is that the government seems to have no interest in stopping it. If the people in the neighborhoods know what is going on, how can the Feds not know?
Food stamp fraud is a gold mine. This story is just the tip of the iceberg.

In NYC people were using multiple cards to buy food and then sell it to a 3rd party who would then ship it to Haiti and the DR where it would be resold again
And now they're facing prison.

And rightly so.....but how often does this happen and why is a state issued picture ID not required for SNAP purchases if it would eliminate 90% or more of this type of fraud of taxpayer $?
I don't know.

I do know, however, that grocery stores have lobbyists, and that grocery stores don't seem like the sorts to relish the idea of a government mandate that their cashiers become food stamp police.

Seriously, I suspect that the grocery lobby probably is opposed to rules that would require it to check shoppers' ID.

Plus, there's the inarguable GOP angle of not wanting poor people to possess state photo IDs.

I actually agree with you on requiring proper identification for SNAP transactions. If you are correct about that, I think the law should be changed.

But be careful what you wish for. If poor people are motivated to spend hours at the DMV getting IDs, then possession of government issued photo IDs - which are usually driver licenses - will no longer have a huge Republican bias. And some of your favorite new laws will be for nothing.

OK, I'm lost on this one. Clue me in on these laws and political stances and bias' so I don't spend all day on Google searches.

We do a lot of work with Orange County's poor (yes, Orange County does have poor people) so I do have first hand experience with this. Almost all the lower socio economic class have state IDs. Its a rare person who does not. Helping those who are eligible to get a driver license or if not a state ID is one of the first steps to ending a persons homelessness.

But with all those evil voter id laws, blacks had their highest turnout ever in 2012.

Don't you think that the requirement to vote should be as stringent as cashing a check?

It's a complete myth that's why you don't know anything about it. I never really did either til I started reading some of the inane resons put forth here.
