SNAP (Food Stamp) money funneled to Yemen? (Probably POL)

You guys don't get it. Even asking for ID will not solve the problem. The reason there is so much fraud in the snap program is because "SOME"(not all or the majority) of those that receive the benefits get much more than they actually need. The excess money or food stamps is what gets sold. Even if ID was required what would stop someone from taking a friend with them to the store and buying their items for them then exchanging those items for money? No difference at all.

We know a young single lady with 5 kids under 8 years old, who gets $800 a month in food stamps. She also gets WIC which pays for milk and infant things, so there is no way her and 5 young kids eat up $200 a week in food. Maybe in a few years when the kids get bigger she'll need that much, but not now.
In a rich nation like ours where hunger is a real problem, I'm glad we still err on the side of giving too much help to poor children like the ones you describe

Yes, the fraud should be minimized, but we'll never get it perfect.

$125 a month for the average recipient isn't too much, when we consider the crime, health, and other social problems we'd have if 46 million poor, elderly, and disabled people stopped receiving that minimal level of food support.

I'm old enough to remember when welfare workers use to come once a month to check on those receiving benefits. These monthly checks would determine if the welfare funds were used properly and if additional funds were needed. Well, in trying to limit welfare funding the money for the welfare workers was cut. So now we have a system that is almost unchecked, yet some complain about that system being abused. What do they expect will happen when you give poor people money?
