So it looks like we are staying at the Strat.......

I feel like I'm taking a big risk here. I am the type of person who likes impressing my girlfriend with fancy places. I also enjoy them as well, it's Vegas, you want to take advantage if it's feasable. My girlfriend is easy to please, so she could care less if we stayed at Motel 6, she is overall a great woman.

Well, I have decided to book a 3 night stay at the Strat, since I think I may have to pay alot of taxes this year, so I want to save some money. I have been there only twice, but did enjoy it both times. I never stayed there, just gambled the first time I went there in July 2010(when I use to be married). Second time was to go to the top of the tower for the first time with my new girlfriend at the time, which was last February 2011. I nor she has ever stayed in the rooms.

I booked a strip view room with free unlimited tower admission. I wanted a new remodeled room, but you have to pay for tower admissiom. Makes no sense, you figure they give you free admission with the more expensive room.

So how are the rooms at the strat? Dumps? Ok? I already know the reputation of the Strat (hookers and to avoid food there), but don't know anything about the rooms. I also remember the Strat it a pretty fun place to gamble.

Give me your thoughts Vegas travelers
I stayed there only once, and it was due to getting suckered on Price Line.

The person at the check in desk said I was upgraded to a mini suite, so I was very excited.

I got up to my room and opened the door. First of all, it smelled like someone had emptied a whole can of Lysol in the place. It was a no-smoking room, so perhaps they did spray Lysol to cover up someone who had smoked there.

The room looked like an ordinary room and I was wondering why they called it a mini suite. At the end of the room I could see an open door, which was like a door to a walk in closet. Well I looked in the room, which was slightly larger than a walk in closet. There was a small desk and love seat. It was hardly a suite.

The Strat is okay at best. I would not feel safe walking to the rest of the strip late at night. The neighborhood behind it is not very good.
Seems like an okay place, though I've never stayed there either.
I think the VP is suppossed to be better than average there. Location would be my only problem.

When ya going ?

Good Luck and Don't Forget a Trip Report.

I've stayed there several times and like it very much. Its all about your expectations. Lets be clear. You are likely paying less than $40/night to stay there - so if you are going to use the same scale you use to measure places like the Wynn or Aria then you are going to be sorely disappointed. If you use the same scale you use to measure other $40/night resorts then you are going to be pleasantly surprised.

Rooms are very clean with newer furnishings and ceramic tiled bathrooms. Walls are thin and there are lots of hookers here...so be prepared to be woken up at 3:00am with some chicks head slamming against your wall.

You don't have to pay to go to the bar or restaurant @ the top of the tower. Just tell them at the desk near the elevator and the ride is free.
We have stayed here once years ago.....Like the rest said, Nothing Fancy, just your typical $40 a night room. The casino was fun, The 50's restaurant they have there (Roxies?) was fun too during our stay. You are right about the Taxi rides though, especially staying at the Strat. That was the biggest problem for us.....You pretty much Taxied everywhere...nothing close enough to walk too.

I will be driving my own vehicle and rarley walk the strip. I just go hotel to hotel and valet everywhere. As far as expectations, the last places I have stayed are......Thehotel, Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo, Cosmo and Rio. I have also stayed at Paris and NYNY. Worst rooms were at the the Rio and the delux room at NYNY. I overall hated the Rio, but I do like NYNY. Strat rooms compare to any of those? Because i was about to book NYNY or Monte Carlo. But those are more money of course and there are resort fees upwards of $20
For the small difference in price I would cancel my reservation and stay somewhere else. Use the great discount codes that are offered on this site. I do not like the North end of the strip. If you are looking for a great budget place with a cheap cafe including no resort fee I would choose Terribles. It has a great location and the rooms are 2 minutes from the parking garage.
If you honestly disliked the rooms at NYNY and the Rio I am afraid you are going to be quite disappointed in the Strat as well. You may want to try looking for some other options.
