So Know I've Become a Walmart Shopper!

I've never liked shopping. It's a pain in the arse, and when I'm forced to do it, I get my business done and I'm out of there as fast as possible.

But in the last two weeks, I've been there 3 times doing the food shopping for the household! Having been in the supermarket business at one time in my life, I am quite aware of prices, and what's a good price and what's not!

Now shopping for food in a Walmart is quite new to us, as they haven't had groceries available for a long time in Calif. But now they do, and I walked in the store with my cart, and started going up and down the aisles. Although you might get lower prices at the regular supermarket when things are on sale, Walmart seems to have lower prices all around. And now they have a policy that if you find a lower price elsewhere, they'll match it!

But my BIGGEST discovery came when I stopped by the Bakery area, I looked over the shelves, and low and behold, they had TASTYKAKES on the shelves. Not many selections, but they were still TASTYKAKES!! Now this might not be a big deal for those of you living on the east coast or south, but the only way you can get them out here is by going to one of those "Philly Cheese Steak" places that "import" them from the east coast! Years ago, a supermarket chain named "Alpha Beta" tried to bring them in back in the late 70's. They didn't last long as people from back east didn't buy enough of the product. Another supermarket chain tried the same thing with the same result....discontinued!

These Philly Steak places charge $3.00 a pack for the Tastykakes! I couldn't believe it when I saw a price of $2.50 for a 6 pack of Tastykakes. They had my favorite...Butterscotch Krimpets...as well as KandyKakes...peanut butter only...I like the cream filled ones...and KoffeKakes, but they were filled with Kreme instead of just plain. When Faye said she liked the Kreme ones, when I made my stop there today, I picked up a 6 pack! Can't wait to dig into them tomorrow.

We've had a problem with our can opener lately. It's one of those that cut the can on the side rather than the top. I've tried to sharpen it with mixed results. Alpo used to have the pop tops on their cans, but for whatever reason did away with it. But...voila...Walmart's Ole Roy canned food now has pop tops, and boy did they save the day. Instead of buying a new can opener, I just bought many cans of Ole Roy hoping the dogs would love this product! And they do!

I also needed some soda, and as you all know, I've bitched about the BS of having to buy 3 or 4 to get the discount price. Well Walmart saved the day again as they have their soda priced at a fixed price of $3.58 for a 12 pack. I could buy my Diet Coke with Lime for one price instead of having to buy 2-4 12 packs to get the discount!

Overall, it's been a nice experience shopping at Walmart, and I finally don't mind shopping there! And they also have discounted booze...maybe not the great prices that some supermarkets sell on sale, but their overall prices are very competitive. Over the next 3 weeks, I plan to shop there regularly and get the best deals possible.
By the way you carry on about your recent shopping there Bags ,I do believe you need to get out more often.
I get out often enough, but not at Walmart. usually do Food 4 Less, Von's and Ralphs. I'm on the road so often, but never get to shop there.
Tastykakes rock.

I have never had a Tastykake? What is this? Like twinkies or something? Maybe we don't have them in Texas or I haven't looked for them.
Ok nevermind. I looked it up and they are at every grocery store here. I guess that's a department I never go to in the store. They look like the same thing as Hostess here.
TASTYKAKES made their way up into the mountains hereabouts 'round a year ago or so. So far only one supermarket sells them.

The Tasty Baking Company has been near bankruptcy several times over the years. Periodically they've tried to distribute more widely than the environs of Eastern Pennsylvania, not always successfully. When he lived in Prescott, Arizona TASTYKAKES showed up on the shelves of Fry's, but vanished after a few months.

DonDiego grew up on TASTYKAKES. He is happy to see them here. Butterscotch Krimpets are also his favorite.

Long Live TASTYKAKE !
ATTENTION WALMART SHOPPERS !!!!!!
