Some Vegas love

I think with the election, paid parking and life in general, some Debbie downer seems to be the norm. So I thought some Vegas love was needed. While I am still unhappy about the state of affairs. We do still love, love, love Vegas

People also think Vegas is only gambling and partying with no education or culture. Tonight I went to see Scott kelly, the astronaut who spent a year in space, do a lecture for free by unlv. A week ago, I went to a free speaker series featuring a Ted speaker and Jewel. I also went to an interactive lounge production of the cats meow at the velveteen rabbit. Forget museums, you can dine in and meet people from different countries daily. On the five minute drive home tonight I was beside a car from Alaska, Utah and Illinois. I am upset by the recent issues because Vegas is the greatest city ever and I want it to stay that way. It is a very regular occurrence to have to choose from not one or two but three very good choices of activities. Vegas is a dream place for active people. Never a dull moment. I pretty much do things daily. If not, multiple things.

I have long said that if Vegas got football, I would not even know how to be that happy and then football got all into the negative political crap. Being a Disney girl as well, I love the thought that Vegas is Disneyland for adults. Just let us live in our delusional happy splendor away from the reality of the rest of the world.

A few other new recommendation from the Vegas front. The baz show at the Venetian. The puppet up also at the Venetian I believe. I am hoping they revamp absinthe to be like rose rabbit lie when it relocated to the Cosmo. Rose rabbit/Vegas nocturne is one of my favorite productions of all time. Was so sad when it closed.

For outdoors, I have recently been discovering valley of fire. If you haven't made it to Roos n more, i heard they are open to the public again after some unfair legal woes. It is a non profit hands on rescue ran by vets.

And for the absurd, I was dragged to puppetry of the penis for a birthday and it was hilariously absurd and more juvenile boy humor than any sex stuff.

My constistent dining must that is local family owned is viva las arepas on the Blvd at Oakey.
Thank you for this nice Vegas post daisybasket. How long have you lived there now?
We have owned a house here for 13 years. Great interesting people from all over the world. So culturally diverse that I find the whole city a museum. A museum being one of the few things Vegas lacks. Especially if we get pro sports. As mentioned in another post, our airport is too notch. Run smoothly, easy and convenient to get to.

As with the rest of the world, things aren't perfect all the time, but some days, we just have to count all the blessings.
Honestly in many conversations, we talk about not knowing you could be "in love" with a city. When people say they hate Vegas, I honestly question their being. I don't get it.

Actually you do have a museum that was recently voted 19 of the top 25 museums in the U.S.. It is the mob museum.

Thanks, daisy - I'm glad locals like you are so welcoming. We are headed for Valley of Fire for the first time next month. Vegas is a big and fun city, lots of great neighborhood restaurants, always different shows and music to check out, a plethora of great hikes close to town, and plenty of decent blackjack games still to be found....
The Clark County Museum is amazing if you enjoy history. I haven't been to the Neon Museum since it became a full blown museum rather than an overcrowded lot, but it's interesting.
Vegas has two wetland preserves and an incredible hiking trail along an abandoned train track that takes you through several tunnels.
I'll second what Melon says, although Vegas lost a great show this past weekend. I had the honor to see Jersey Boys on its next to last night. I found out that Franky Valli and Tommy actually flew in and attended the last performance this last Sunday. I also got to see Mike Tyson and really enjoyed his show.
Yes. The mob museum is a lot more history than just the mob. Very interesting and we actually didn't get through it all in one day because it had so much. And yes, that Clark county $2 museum on Boulder highway is difinitely worth checking out as well. I finally got around to that last spring. I have heard that people like the discovery science museum for kids. No kids here for me so I have never went and we have a very nice one where I'm from. I will say that we lack a fine arts or natural history museum. I do like fine art museums. I would have to say that I would pass on the bellagio art gallery. I went to see the Picasso exhibit thinking it would be a good substitute but it didn't do anything for me and was very small. Maybe Picasso is just not my guy.

I have never went to the neon museum either. Don't hear much about it.

I will add a Vegas fave too is jumping walking into the weirdest situation and people. That is a perk itself.
I just returned from Vegas and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Cabana day, dinner at Hugo cellars and charthouse,. I finally made it to don't tell mama the piano bar. Our group ziplined, saw the bodies exhibit, dancing fountains, Bellagio conservatory. To name just a few things. So much to do so little time.
