southwest airlines app questions

I down loaded the southwest app for my smartphone and have been on it but haven't really used it yet. I have a couple of questions;
#1 Has anyone had issues with speed of the phone trying to get a good seat number? I don't really want to be the last one on the plan, which more importantly means I would be one of the last back off!
#2 When you show up at security, they usually initial your paper ticket (stuff like that) has anyone had any issues going thru security with the app on there phone? what happens if you and your wife only have one smartphone?
#3 What happens if your phone dies at the airport with your ticket in it? Can you go to the counter and simply get a paper one?
I only saw "one" young lady use the app on her phone on my last trip. She was trying to get thru and it seemed to take the scanner a few tries to read it correctly but it did eventually work. She had a better number than I had so I assume she used the app to get her number and everything and it worked well for her.

1. Probably would depend your connection speed more so than the app's speed.
2a. No problem. They are used to boarding passes on smartphones. 2b. The problem is that when I use the digital boarding pass on my smartphone it's not a simple download. It's a hyperlink and it takes a little time to load. I load the link while waiting in line. You might need to open two windows in your browser to get two boarding passes queued up and ready to go. I suffer from a bit of anxiety when I have to deal with authority and show them my "papers". Having the paper is one less thing to worry about.
3. yes

I'm a techie guy but I find the old fashioned paper boarding pass a bit easier to use but since it's a lot easier to counterfeit, I suspect its days of being able to print at home are numbered.
Last trip on SW we had 4 people in front of us using the app for a boarding pass...each took several passes till it read them. It is so easy to get the boarding pass out of the machine, why not do it.
