southwest fee for early boarding passes?

I always do the early bird check in, and I usually get seats in the A30 range. I think it's worth the cost. My flights from Manchester NH are always 98% full.
I gotta ask, what's the huge deal on getting on the plane so quick it'd be worth fifty bucks? We just flew SW (and airtran) and I see what everybody means about the different sections, but the plane still arrives at the destination at the same time. Does debarking from the plane 10-15 minutes after the first row make that much difference? I mean people howl about all the nickel and dime fees(baggage, etc.) and yet freely give up $ to get on and off a few minutes sooner.

I'm certainly not meaning that in any insulting way, I'm just curious of the mindset behind it.

I don't know if it's so much sitting near the front of the plane as it is (for me at least) being assured of sitting with the person I'm traveling with. When I was married I preferred NOT to sit next to her so that was never an issue If you are near the back of the line chances are they'll just be scattered single seats. If that doesn't matter then I agree, it doesn't pay to pay extra.

I've NEVER understood this either.....

I guess getting on the plain near the end is a PITA because there may not be space if you have a carry on bag...of course that could be alleviated by the airlines actually enforcing "personal items" be placed under the seat rather than the overhead storage(SW is the only airline I've seen enforce this).

Other than that, early boarding, pushing and shoving, getting in line early, etc....there is no point. Pretty sure its all about nervous personality types irrationally getting concerned where no concern need exist.

I'm an impatient person, so I prefer sitting near the front and getting off quickly. I hate standing there waiting for everyone to get their baggage (I always check mine). I also prefer an aisle seat and they usually fill up pretty quickly.

I also don't like being seated next to little kids, so if you get an A pass and sit near the front, you're usually guaranteed a kid-free zone.

That's why I'm pretty prompt hitting the 24 hr window on the nose. We ended up "C" boarders once. Not only did we have to sit apart, but I had the opportunity to sit between a father and son on the way to some sort of concrete convention. Three not all that small guys in the seats - - three plus hours of being the middle net in a back and forth tennis match of concrete talk - - one of those experiences was enough. Perhaps if I knew a little concrete-speak, and could have added to the conversation, it may have been better!

If true, thats the most Fd up thing Ive evr heard. I AM slightly handicapped and I dont take spots wawy from those who truly are.You park in their spots too? Fn j___.

Clearly that was dry humor.

Just ask any dog.

I took it as dry humor.

Man, I was only kidding... I didn't mean to cause an uproar. He is handicapped and does have to be in the front of the plane in case I have to help him to the bathroom. We have to use a wheelchair to get him through the airport because he can't make it in his walker. They also have to wheel him down the ramp because of the steep incline. There's no real advantage to sit up front when the plane lands because we are the last ones off because we have to use a wheelchair to get him off the plane as well. We've gone to Vegas several times before his accident so that is not the only reason I go with him. When I go by myself or with others, I could care less where I sit. I always have to wait 15-20 for the luggage to start coming up anyway when I get to the baggage claim area.

I do get mad at him when he drives and parks in a handicapped spot and he's not going in the store.

HA, its all cool, I guess Im just overly sensitive on that particular and I apologize for jumping on ya ray. That's a really great thing you do traveling with your friend and taking care of him like that, very cool indeed.

What's funny was, the last trip was in the middle of summer, 110+ days and I'm pushing him up and down the strip in the wheelchair and I was looking like someone beat me with a baseball bat. Some people thought we were homeless and tried to put money in his soda cup (we didn't keep it).

Once the concrete conversation got going, did yout try offering to swap seats with one of them? You probably did. It seems intuitive that one of them would have offered to swap with you so they could sit together and converse more easily. Too bad.
