Farewell "Discovery" !

DonDiego witnessed one Shuttle Launch at Cape Canaveral, . . . might've been STS-69. It was awesome; about 18-seconds after liftoff the sound hit poor old DonDiego and rattled his chest for the better part of a minute. Some fun. (DonDiego had already seen three Saturn V launches; they were even more powerful.)

For the foreseeable future US astronauts will be passengers on Russian Spacecraft.
Some reporter today in Florida where the 747/shuttle took off found a young boy who wants to be an astronaut and introduced him to former US Astronaut Anna Fisher. He asked her to give the lad some advice on becoming an astronaut; she replied: "Study Russian".

Those pics were taken from her backyard, it flew directly over our house as well. GOLLY GOSH DARNIT Can't believe neither one of us knew about it, apparently everyone else did.

DD I mentioned to M after the fact that one of the things I wish all of us could've seen was a shuttle launch live. Everyone I've ever talked to described it exactly the same way you did. I'm also really jealous you've seen a couple saturn launches, how cool is that.

Oh well, we've always got the "we've been to the worlds biggest souvenier shop in the world" thing going fo rus, so our lives haven't been completely wasted.

Still pissed that NYC gets a shuttle and down here in Houston, where the space center is with mission control and we don't...
The shuttle(endeavor) was only a prototype shuttle here at the Dulles museum that's headed to NYC. We saw that thing and its' HUGE and very cool. I can't wait to go see Discovery.

Trivia The shuttle endeavor was spelled incorrectly on the craft. Not sure if they fixed it or left it. No, I didn't catch that, dunno know how to spell it, read it somewhere.
Acutually, Dulles had the Space Shuttle prototype Enterprise and she has moved to New York. It is a shame that NYC gets a shuttle and Houston home of the space program gets left out in the cold.

And Endeavour is the correct spelling. The ship is named after after the British ship HMS Endeavour which took James Cook on his voyages. It is also named after the Apollo 15 Command Module, itself named after Cook's ship.
