Spare a kidney?

Thought i'd give an update on my progress since being home from the hospital. Heres a post i made back in november to remind about me.

"since my burn accident and just reflecting how long a road its been. Today was my first trip to the grocery store (its what made me remember the date) since I've been home. Thinking back about the daily struggle of just learning to sit on the edge of the bed, progressing to standing for a few seconds.to the first few steps. Those simple things would exhaust me completely. Today I use a cane but its mainly for balance and small steps. I still tire very easy after walking or standing for a few minutes whuch is normal. My weight is starting to come back gradually but am still wayy under weight at 108lbs. My lowest weight was 84 at one time.pretty scary.

What does this have to do with vegas you ask? nothing really, just that I thought about traveling while cruising the grocery store in the rascal and how it'll handle in the casinos and the visual of me crusing in between slots cracked me up.

Next up to do........stairs, they're a bitch.

Later all, JOHN "

Now its a little over 3 months since i've been home and I'm happy to say I'm doing great! Better than anyone expected, some even amazed at my progress,as some never thought i would live. The looks on some faces going back is so great!, some were even tears. Way too cool.
Some of my progress.
-I ditched the cane awhile ago. I'm walking normally and stairs are not much of a problem. My stamina is still pretty low,and get tuckered out fairly easy. Biggest problem now is that i've developed neurapathy in my feet and it hurts like hell. It came about becauseof either my heart failure or my kidneys failing. Not sure if its permenant or temporary, sure hope its temperary. Dr said tne nerves may regenerate.

-My nurse/dietician or whatever her official title is at dialasys , has been amazed every month when she grades my progress chart. My weight has steadily gained (about 120's) and all my blood levels have come back up to close to normal, protein, albumin, etc.

-Just went to the heart dr last week and the look on her face was priceless, first time shes ever seen me standing up. My heart is now pumping 45-50%, normal is 60. My low in the hospital was 25(near death, this was when they didnt think i would make it i think). My pulminary pressure is now down to 45%,normal is 35. EKG is normal.

-My liver was enlarged and my liver levels were high when i left the hospital. Had an ultrasound last week and its back to normal, woohoo! I was sweating that one a little.

-Since all my tests have been so great,my main dr wants to get me on a kidney transplant asap. I guess the sooner i can fet one the better chances of success. He says I'm a prime candidate for one. So wish me luck!

So this is where I satand after 3 months home.

Good luck and great news on your progress.
That's wonderful! So happy your on the mend. I hope you get your kidney soon.

Congrats, its a long slow road ahead, but have it in your head that you will eventually make it back to as close to 100% as possible. You'll get there.

For the staris, use the handholds!!! If you have some indoor stairs, do a couple several times a day, it does help. Just keep walking as much as possible. (every few hours or so)

Glad to hear you are on the mend, best of luck to you sounds like you have a positive attitude and that will cary you a long way.
God bless and best wishes. I hope you are very lucky and get the best possible kidney match.
John,

I am so happy that you are making the wonderful progress that you are making. As someone who works in a hospital I know that the best thing for making a full recovery for someone in your situation is having a great attitude and I see that you have that.

Hopefully soon you will have that kidney and be able to be a 100 percent and I hope that you will be able to take that trip to Vegas.

If anyone deserves to win the Megabucks or Wheel of Fortune it is you my friend.

God bless you and take care,

Loyd
God bless man! I hope everything works out and i know they will!
