Sports announcers

sulobo9142 - I am with you on this one. I would love to hear honesty and the truth instead of this "politically correct" new age broadcasting. A true fan of the games will appreciate McCarver and Michaels - it is only those who have no clue about the games they watch who complain about these announcers. The media will cater to the so called "tastes" of today's fans which means that as long as the broadcast has announcers who think and talk like Vince McMahan or Jerry Springer then the "fans will be happy. I say tell it like it is.
I can't stomach Joe Morgan. Great player, maybe a great person, but a terrible announcer.
As far as so-called political correctness goes- I can't imagine any of the great announcers of the past needing to use four letter words to describe any play. If your vocabulary is so limited you need resort to those types of words, you have no business being a public speaker in the first place.
McCarver used to be a great announcer but he's years past his prime, and Al Micheals is certainly on the downward slope of his career.
As a Yankee fan, the best thing I can say about their radio announcer John Sterling is he is neither Morgan nor McCarver.

Joe Buck and Tim McCarver would be better announcers if they did not spend all their time kissing the Yankees ass everytime they broadcast a playoff game.

OMG..what planet are you on???
Those two hate the Yankees. PERIOD. They both get my vote for the worse annoucers ever. Buck sucks, but with Tim McGarver, he's god awful. They need to stay in the National League. UGH.

Did you watch the American league championship series with the Rangers? When the series started they were acting like it was going to be a Yankee sweep and they seemed sad when the Rangers whipped their ass.
My worst announcer of all time would have to be Bryant Gumbel. Remember when he did NFL games on the NFL network?

He was horrible.

Harry Doyle is my all time favorite

Howard Cosell..."I just tell it like it is."
Cosell, Meridith, Gifford. on MNF...pretty good team.
Vin Scully is the best on baseball. He actually was one of football's best to in the past. After him the best would be Cosell.
I thought Dennis Miller was pretty damn good. Was very upset when he was let go from Monday Night Football.
He gone.

"And we're coming up on the 3-minute warning..." My favorite quote from Gumbel. I'm sure Collinsworth wanted to punch him in the head.

Al Michaels is the best play by play guy in the history of the business, in my opinion, regardless of sport. i learned about hockey in the 1980 Olympics because of him. And if you watch Dennis Miller's recent stand up show on HBO he shares a few anecdotes about his 2 seasons working with Al that show Michaels was not only the consummate professional, but also had a sense of humor.

I'll never forget the game where the team was about to kick a meaningless field goal, and Michaels proclaimed "this is important because it's for the 'over.' I know some folks were not happy to hear a gambling reference on tv, but I loved it.

As for other sports, even if you don't like soccer, Andy Gray is brilliant. He was fired from Sky Sports last week for sexist comments about a fellow female reporter, but that doesn't take away his talent in the booth. Hoping ESPN will bring him in for their EPL games...

Yes I watched it...on MUTE! They suck. Plain and simple. Why Fox doesn't just stick them in ST. Louis is beyond me.
