Stand-up comedy

Here is my first attempt at stand-up comedy. None of the material is related to blackjack or Las Vegas, but I'm hoping you'll give me a free pass as a semi-regular poster on this forum.

Pretty good for first attempt. You didn't seem nervous at all and the audience was on your side.
Very good for a newbie, you didn't seem nervous which is rare. Also looks like they gave you about 6 1/2 minutes, does that club allow you as much time as you want? The clubs near me give you five minutes and light you at four, sucks if you have any type of long bit.
Nice debut.

A hell of a lot better than I could do. Nice job.
Nicely done Wiggy. I'm planning to do my world standup comedy debut in December at Sapphire Gentlemen's Club's open Mic night. I'm working on my bit....Couple of questions for you:

1. Did you write the whole bit out and then memorize it...or just sort of outline it?
2. How much did you practice?
3. Were you under time constraints? How much time did you budget for uproarious laughter?
4. It seems like it can be a fine line between funny and obscene and tragic and not funny...and you can't know how your audience will react to new stuff...did you try your bit out on friends before your performance?

I didn't memorize the material, but I practiced eight times prior to the performance. Each time, my wording changed a little. I also practiced using different jokes/comments. The best advice that I received was to practice in front of a mirror with a mic...I used a thin bottle of water. The comedy club gave each open mic performer five minutes, but I noticed early on that they weren't strict on the timeline. I added a couple extra jokes on the fly.

I was terrified at the beginning...the same butterflies that I experienced when I first counted cards. Similar to playing blackjack, the butterflies went away after I heard the first laugh. Try it!
It sounded good and you had nice timing. Good start :-)
Good relaxed posture and pacing and voicing. And nice recoveries when the audience didn't quite get it. If you dropped any lines, couldn't tell it.

I agree with alanleroyll's point #4, though.

Sexual humor that works with guys night out in a bar doesn't always have the same effect from the stage. Less is more.

And the "I like to piss people off" stories...hmm. They'd get laughs from a bunch of friends drinking, but to your audience, we don't know you and you are telling us you'd like to piss us off!

But, bravo and keep working at it! You've got the moves.
