State's rights?

Not really. Not anymore anyway. The Obama has spoken or it's his way or the highway apparently. Such a shame the Fed govt. has such a stranglehold on the states by witholding money. Not how the founders envisioned this country, all over where someone can take a leak. Incredible. I really hope NC stands their ground and others stand up with them (I know the western..umm, lefty states won't, more power to 'em). I really don't care. I probably would never know if Chaz walked in and took a pee next to me, wouldn't care. If a tranny walked by me amd went into the ladies room, I'd probably never know, wouldn't care either.

I'm still so astonished over this dumbass conflict over where to pee or whatever. Someone nailed when they said you're either born with a pens or a vagina. That's really it. PERIOD, end of story.

Obama To Ask School Districts To Let Transgender Students Use Restrooms Of Choice

WASHINGTON (CBSNewYork/AP) — President Barack Obama is giving new marching orders to public schools about bathroom use by transgender students.

Letters will go out on Friday informing school districts that they are to allow transgender students to use the restrooms of their choice.

The directive is in formal guidance being sent to school districts Friday by the departments of Education and Justice.

The letter does not impose any new legal requirements, but federal officials say the guidance is meant to clarify school districts’ obligations to provide students with nondiscriminatory environments.

The letter is signed by officials from the Justice Department and the Department of Education, the New York Times reported. It does not have the force of law, but warns that schools that do not abide could face lawsuits or a loss of federal aid, the New York Times reported.

You can't really think this is about the right to pee. This is about the right twisting reality to the point where they try to pretend the majority is somehow being abused and persecuted . Just another war on Christmas bone to throw to the ignorant.

City's rights?

Not really. Not anymore anyway. The McCrory has spoken or it's his way or the highway apparently. Such a shame the State govt. has such a stranglehold on the cities by invalidating their laws. Not how the founders envisioned this country, all over where someone can take a leak. Incredible. I really hope Charlotte, NC stands their ground and others stand up with them.
This isn't just about where someone can take a pee. It is about school kids and their restrooms, gym locker rooms and showers. School kids!

It isn't about NC laws. It is nation-wide intimidation, financial blackmail, the latest power over-reach by Øbama. He thinks he has the authority to act as the superintendent of every public school district in every state of the USA.

He also thinks he knows what he's doing, fiddling away while Rome burns. That's typically known as delusional, or, at best, exceptionally disconnected from reality.

Can someone explain to poor old DonDiego what the difference between "having the force of law" and "not having the force of law" means, . . . if the Federal Government can shut down funding to non-compliant public schools.

that damn Federal governmnet and their overreach !

From The Washington Post: :
. . . . . when sex equality rules were championed in the 1970s, now-Justice Ginsburg — one of the most prominent feminist lawyers of her era — rejected as “emphatically” unsound the argument that those rules might lead to males being allowed to use women’s restrooms.

"Separate places to disrobe, sleep, perform personal bodily functions are permitted, in some situations required, by regard for individual privacy. Individual privacy, a right of constitutional dimension, is appropriately harmonized with the equality principle."

And that principle still holds true in every public restroom/locker room in the country. Its just an issue of how one is identified as a "male" or "female". Evangelicals disagree with the consensus of modern scientists (aren't you shocked?) and use a different metric for this judgement.

So its really a case of what mechanism our public schools use to identify students' genders: the one offered up by scientists? Or the one offered up by people who teach dinosaurs walked the earth with humans?

I think the administration has got it right. And I'm confident history will bare that out.

5. (Science: mechanics) Adapted for entering another corresponding piece (the female piece) which is hollow and which it fits; as, a male gauge, for gauging the size or shape of a hole; a male screw, etc."

From dictionary.com :
"Male
1. a person bearing an X and Y chromosome pair in the cell nuclei and normally having a penis, scrotum, and testicles, and developing hair on the face at adolescence; a boy or man.
2. an organism of the sex or sexual phase that normally produces a sperm cell or male gamete.
3. Botany. a staminate plant."

From American Psychological Association
"Sex is assigned at birth, refers to one’s biological status as either male or female, and is associated primarily with physical attributes such as chromosomes, hormone prevalence, and external and internal anatomy. Gender refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviors, activities, and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for boys and men or girls and women. These influence the ways that people act, interact, and feel about themselves. While aspects of biological sex are similar across different cultures, aspects of gender may differ.
Various conditions that lead to atypical development of physical sex characteristics are collectively referred to as intersex conditions.
