Staying Downtown for the first time

We have gone to Vegas many times, always staying on the strip. We go downtown for a day but this trip we would like to stay at least one or two nights downtown before finishing our trip on the strip. Golden nugget is my first choice but would consider the Plaza or Main Street Station. Not interested in the pool or fancy dining, but would like some recommendations for a good steak other than Hugo's Cellar.
We usually stay at Calif Casino, but play there and Main St. Ive had some excellent steaks at the

Redwood in the CAL.
The Flame at the El Cortez is a good steakhouse.Go to the El Cortez website and you can view the menu.

Do they still have the "secret" steak?

Redwood still has the 18 oz porterhouse with salad, sides, and desert for $25.
It's now on my list for every visit.
I failed to mention, they are not open 7 nites a week, best to get reservations ahead to avoid disappointment. If you like hot horseradish, they have it !!
We always stay at Golden Nugget. Binions has a steak house way up on the top floor and a nice view of Vegas.

AND "Deep Fried Lobster".

The El Cortez is our favorite! Cabana Rooms are the best. Although I believe they have some remodeled rooms in casino. Not far from Freemont. Also we have not paid for a room there since our first trip! We play slots about 200.00 per day each. Good luck!
