Stocks and DRIPs

I've always known what DRIPs were and what they did,I just never incorporated it into anything. The last thread about portfilios mentioned DRIPs and I it got me looking at some of the stocks I own. One stock i have is PGH, a canadien energy play. I've always liked this stock and have done pretty well with it. One of the things i really like about it is it pays a monthly divvy, which is about a 6% return. Come to find they have a DRIP and I could've been putting that 60 or so bucks back into at 95% share price. GRRRRRRRRR,that whole year in the hospital, could've been buying more instead of just letting a pittance of cash accumulate. I could've had almost 900 shares if i had done it when i first bought the stock. Oh well.
It is a pretty nice play on a canadien energy angle, others are ERF PWE PVX. Food for thought if anyone's interested. DISCLOSURE;i own PGH and PVX.Will probably buy a little ERF.

JOHN

PS Thanks PJ for mentioning DRIP's in that last thread,it would've never occured to me.
Doesn't Canada take 15% off the top of your dividend?
I dont know about Canada taxes, but Drips are excellent. A little drip can add up to a whole bucketfull of money. (sorry, couldn't resist.)

Not all companies have them but if they do take 'em because there is usually no commission to buy or sell plus you can make additional cash contributions to buy additional shares. If there is a fee it is very small. Ive never heard of a drip that has commissions that even come close to any other kind of brokerage account.

when slapinfunk and his sister were born I bought a few shares of the "kids stocks" for them.... McDonalds, Disney, Mobil and they had drips. when they went to college their few shares had a few more shares, so the drips added up. and the dripped stocks keep getting dripped upon... so its drips upon drips... which means compounding.

drip away.

No.It used to be an energy trust, then there was a canidien distribution tax or some such crap, but no longer. Being paid in CDN bucks so thats currently a bonus.

Oh yea,put a couple others in DRIPs GE and AA.

If you buy thru almost any on-line broker, they will reinvest your dividends for you at no charge. DRIPS are okay, but there are some problems- You don't know the price you will be paying per share when you buy, and you don't know what price you will get when you sell them. It's several days minimum to get your moiney when you sell.
I used to invest in DRIPS, now I use mystockfund.com and stockbroker.com. They are quicker, easier and cost almost nothing. mystockfund offers free investing if you want to purchase QQQQ.
