Strangers trusted with cash while gambling

This could apply to you on either side- What is the largest dollar figure you have seen?

Has a stranger at a video poker bar ever asked you to watch their machine still loaded with money while they stepped away for a moment?

Have you ever asked a stranger to watch your machine still loaded with money while you stepped away for a moment?

I have been asked several times over the years but one time in particular the guy had over $300 on the machine when he asked me. I was at the vp bar for a long time (and with my wife) but I was still shocked he would leave a stranger watching over so much money.

Anyone else?

I've had a few people tell me that they would be right back and tip their chair up. I will tell anyone who arrives that the place is occupied, but I have no idea how much money has been on the machine. Since TITO, I never ask anyone to watch my machine. Just hit the TITO, tip my chair, and go. What, you don't trust VP players?
I see people at the swanky El Cortez leave hundreds in chips on the BJ table to take a bathroom break. All the time.
I believe dealers and bartenders will keep an eye on your chips/money in the machine for you. On the slot floor, either cash out a ticket or call a slot floor attendant. They will "babysit" your machine for you (yes, that's what they call it), but you should tip them a couple of bucks when you come back.

I've only had people leave, at most, a few bucks on the machine they ask me to watch. I don't mind as long as they come back in a timely manner. 5 min. is reasonable, 15 is too long. If I'm playing but want to move on, I don't want to sit and guard a machine for someone I don't know will return.I have called an attendent to tell them someone left their machine, and didn't come back, when I feel I've waited long enough.I didn't stick around to see what the attendant did with the $. I never ask someone I don't know to watch my machine.I just sit in pain until my bladder is about to burst then I cash out!!!

$1500 or so.
Yes
Yes

Last trip, a lady and I were playing side by side for a long time. Slant tops.
We had said very little to each other, just an occasional comment.
Hardly looked at one another.
Once she had me watch her machine with some $1800 or so in it.
Later she got Aces/Kicker for 2K.
About an hour later she got Aces/Kicker again.
She said "I'm going to the bathroom. If they come by tell them to use this."
She put her W2-G from the first jackpot down right next to me!

I've watched machines with money in, and I've had others watch mine with money in.
But I never had somebody leave a W2-G out in plain sight for me to watch over.

Yikes! I must have a really honest face LOL.

I've left a couple of thousand on a machine when I was drunk, but I always knew that the Silverton security guys were right behind me so I had nothing to worry about. If it was some other hotel I might cash it out.

What do you mean "left"? Where did you go?
When i was first playing table games and got comfortable with it i wasn't sure i could leave my checks on the table while i left for a minute to go hit the head. I was playing early in the morn with some really nice older guys and they all kinda chuckled and said "go ahead,we'll make sure no one touches 'em". I believed them and sure enough it was okey-dokey to take a pee break and have the dealer and table watch your stuff. Of course i'd never do it on a busy night with a table i wasn't comfortable with.
I do start stuffing chips in my pocket when my piles start getting tall,so most i've ever had left on the table was probably 2-300 bucks.

At craps the dealers usually but a plexiglass case over your chip rack when you take a bathroom break or leave for a phone call. In the old days it was a "towel" or cloth put over your chips.

Ive asked players to "guard" my machine while I went to the ATM, and others have done the same -- and there are no credits left to be played.

when credits are on the machine its ok to call a floor person to either watch it or lock it. at caesars they will lock the machine till you return but ask you to cash out the credits and then redeposit the TITO when you return.

I usually take my bathroom breaks at VP when a handpay comes around... but when I switched to Bonus handpays are not as often as DDB so I sometimes ask for a floor person to watch the machine for a few moments. I always wash my hands.
