Sucker Bets?

Does anyone REALLY think these sucker bets are worth it??? All I've read is that it is only good for the casino

Are you talking about a particular game?
The odds are never in our favor. No bet is ever "worth it".
I can remember a couple of twenty somethings playing the "Field" bet, while I was at a craps game. They were hot for a while and would high five each other. You would have thought they found the secret, even though the "Field" takes up a good part of the craps table. They were doubling up after losses. The shooter got like 8 or 9 non-field rolls in a row and they were toast.

Every bet in the place is better for the casino.

Some are worse sucker bets than others, but all are designed for the player to lose.

Even red or black on the roulette wheel is not as good as a coin flip, because of the zero and double zero on the wheel.

Like Snidely said, no bet is ever "worth it" unless losing the money is of no consequence.
I guess the games we play are Let It Ride or Three Card Poker

We play at home and play both ways (with and without sucker bets) and we always come out ahead if we don't play them!!
Last night I saw guy playing 15 - 20 per hand on both Blackjack side bets (Top 3 and Big 3). He got a 2 and 3 of clubs and the dealer turned over the 4 of clubs for a straight flush. The Big 3 paid 180 - 1 for a $2700 winner and I think he got like $600 on the other side. He drew 2 big cards to bust. I told him that was the best Blackjack bust hand I'd ever seen.

Very few people are in the casino for the "long run". If you are playing hit and run, you can do OK SOMETIMES with bad odds bets, but in the long run they do not call them SUCKER BETS for nothing.

Your results may vary.

Ahh, you are speaking of SIDE bets when you say "sucker bets?"

Yes the odds are still against us in any game, including the SIDE bets.
I've had runs of luck on side bets, but certainly not always.

There is always the incredibly lucky moment that defies the odds, as with jphelan's example. That guy should never play another side bet in his life! But he will.

The Wizard of Odds website will tell you the house edge on those. Usually they are pretty healthy sources of revenue for the house. I used to play the "sharp shooter" side bets on craps until I saw the house edge was nearly 10%. Might as well play a slot machine.

But, hey, as long as you're having fun and not loosing your rent money then who cares?

Absolutely. Having fun is the name of the game.

When I was dealt a mini royal playing LIR there was only the one side bet (the 3 card bet). I think it was 300-1? I don'y remember if had 1-2 or 3 bucks on it but it was a great win.
