PSTD? Wet yourself? WTH, go ahead and sue. I can see how it could be a little scary biut that's the whole point of the exercise.

Teacher Sues Oregon School District for Traumatic Active-Shooter Drill

"When a goggle-wearing gunman burst into her classroom two years ago, teacher Linda McLean wondered if she was going to die.

She remembered her grandchildren and the one on the way.

That's when she noticed a pistol on the floor outside her classroom and wondered if she should pick it up and go after the man in black who had just pointed a gun in her face, pulled the trigger and told her she was dead.

But she wasn't dead. She wasn't even bleeding. And a short time later, McLean, 56, and other teachers were gathered in the library of their Oregon elementary school, being debriefed on how they reacted.

That is McLean's version of what happened during a simulated school shooting at Pine Eagle Charter School in Halfway, Oregon, in April 2013, according to a newly filed federal lawsuit. ..."
"..The teacher, who had worked at the school more than three decades, says she has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and has not been able to set foot back in the school since the incident. '''"

"...And McLean claims she's not the only one that was traumatized by the drill: One teacher wet herself, and another hurt his arm trying to keep one of the "gunmen" out of his classroom, according to the lawsuit. ..."

Were you ever a little inconvenienced?, ever 'hurt an arm'?, have you ever pissed yourself!?
I don't know about a law suit, but a drill of this nature unannounced is a terrible idea. I have been involved in training similar to this where we didn't properly notify and we were lucky to skirt disaster. So many things could have gone wrong. We definitely caught a break.
How do the people who staged this still have their jobs. What if one of the teachers had been armed?

I hope she wins bigtime.

In the scenario I described, it cost the officer overseeing the drill his job understandably.

While I agree it probably wasn't the best idea to havew a drill of this nature( forkie is exactly right, what if someone was armed. I know I would've shot someone in a heartbeat, especially protecting the kids) BUT my point is that no harm was really done and yet the country has one more lawsuit.

I don't like the lawsuit happy country that we've become and I thought it was kinda funny when the othe "injuries reported were some guy "hurt" his arm, and some girl wet herself.

While I am not one who agrees with our country's current litigious attitude I do agree with this lawsuit.

The underlying purpose of lawsuits is to prevent re-occurrences of situations that prompted the lawsuit. Unfortunately, often the only viable deterrent to irresponsible behavior is the fear of a lawsuit.

If you do something THAT stupid you should be sued. The real answer however is to make only ME responsible for who gets to sue who and for what.
I snicker at what I consider to be a frivolous lawsuit.

But, sorry John, this goes beyond the pale and deserves as strong a message as can be sent.

Whomever designed this is stupid, arrogant, and completely disrespectful of the teachers and students, especially in light of the not-so-very-long ago "active shooter" school tragedies.

"Pointed a gun in her face and pulled the trigger". Hell yes, pay the woman, big time.

No previous training, no instructions. As in what actions by teachers are recommended (and supported)?

And by the way, expect a drill to be conducted that will involve a person dressed in military garb rushing in and pointing a gun at you.
- If you stand up to him and tell him to go to hell you get an A.
- If you throw yourself on a student you get a B.
- If you totally freeze in place you get a C.
- If you piss yourself you get a D, and
- If you run and hurt yourself, and file a Workman's Comp claim, you get an F.

Banks and 7-11 Stores give better training.

I think every parent of students who witnessed this should sue.
