Summer of Tournaments - Day 47

Summer of Tournaments – Day 47

I slept in until 7 AM this morning so we got a late start to the day. We picked up Terry downtown and then went to the Mirage so he could shower and check out there as he’s heading back to Denver this evening.

Absolutely have to pose with the Chippendales if you visit the Rio

If you like Beatles music, this is a must-see show at least once

Even though we stayed at the Cromwell for three nights, we never made it over to the Linq, so I drove into the Quad valet and we took the walk along the shopping area of the Linq all the way down to the observation wheel. It wasn’t very busy but it was still early and fortunately there was a lot of cloud cover today, which made a summer day in Vegas tolerable.

This is a restaurant along the Linq walk: how would YOU pronounce it?

We had lunch at the KGB Burgers (Kerry’s Gourmet Burgers) in Harrah’s. Terry and I had hamburgers and Cindy had the salmon sandwich. All the food was excellent and the salmon got double thumbs up.

We drove along the Strip and I thought I should at least get a picture of the newest Game Works in Town Center. I was here yesterday, but it wasn’t open, so this would give me another chance. If you remember the Game Works that was adjacent to the M&M store along the MGM property square, it was a three level game store with a wall climb, bars hidden in corners and a cool little restaurant. This new place is nothing like it. It simply has no atmosphere or character—just a long square room with bars and a restaurant in the front and games in the back—think Chuck-E-Cheese. There was a cool, small bowling alley and a room that was called E-gaming where online gamers could play on their systems. Otherwise, it’s pretty much such the same old games you play for tickets that you turn in for over-priced prizes.

The bowling alley at Game Works looks pretty nice

Neither Terry nor Cindy had been to the Ethel M. Chocolate Factory off Sunset in Henderson, so we took a little drive down there to check it out. As it was Saturday, there weren’t many workers today, but there was one line filling in boxes of candy as they are already beginning to package hearts of candy for Valentine’s Day.

There’s a huge cactus garden outside the chocolate factory—the two seem odd partners

We called Dave and agreed to meet at the Rio Diamond Lounge to have a couple of drinks before I need to drive Terry to the airport. There weren’t many people there as we enjoyed a drink, but as soon as 4 PM approached the place began to fill up because the hot food was being put out. In a surprising move, the DL put out the usual chicken wings, but today added BBQ ribs. We were simply too full from lunch to eat anything, but Dave reports they were quite good.

Dave agreed to take Terry to the airport for me so I could work on this trip report because tonight we have tickets to the Michael Jackson Live concert here at the Rio and it’s not going to get out until 10:30 or so, and we need to leave very early tomorrow. Sunday is the WORST day to leave Las Vegas but because Cindy has to be back to work Monday, we’re going to brave it, but we’re going to leave as early as possible. I will report on the concert and do a final round up for the trip in tomorrow’s final report.

More tomorrow
Sniff, sniff. If the reports are done then that means a new school year and back to work.
Another great summer of reports. Many mahalos.
It's disappointing the S.O.T. trip is coming to an end. Thanks again for taking the time to write and let everyone follow along on your trip. I wish the VP had been better for you but the tournament winnings seemed to be pretty good, even tho it was mostly FP. Til next summer and the next seven star installment.
Enjoyed all of the reports as usual. Thanks for doing them. I have mixed feelings about the Cromwell. I used to stay there when it was BC and Bill's. I called it the best kept secret in vegas.

So sad your trip is almost over. I enjoy your reports so much. In fact the first thing I do every morning is make my coffee & read your report. Thanks again for taking the time to write & post pictures for us.
Great job on all of your reports. I especially like hearing where you have eaten and what you thought of it.

Sorry the royal didn't come your way this summer.

Joy
Do us all a favor and give us occasional reports of your VP / 7 Stars adventures. We need something to hold us over until next summer.

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this. I really look forward to your reports. I know it take time and effort but it does not go unnoticed.
Thank you for the fabulous daily trip reports. They always made me smile.

Sometimes I am reluctant to even go to the LVA forums, because increasingly there are fewer threads actually related to Las Vegas or to gambling. Your posts reminded me why I signed up for this forum in the first place. Thanks again.
Always follow your great reports. really good to see the East Coast group since none of them post their trip reports any longer. Miss them and so many others that have stopped posting. Thanks so much Jon for the time and trouble you go to for us.
Hey Jon, can't believe it's over all ready. I'm working on the book version, but I'm really behind this year (have about a third of it done). I'll send you a pm when it's all done. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us again this year. k
