I, for one, am not holding my breath until a Japanese head of state lays a wreath for those lost at our WWII Memorial. Hells Bells,.

Nor will they lay a wreath in Philippines, Burma, China, to name few more.

While the bombing was horrific, it was nothing when compared to the millions who would have been killed in the event of an invasion.
My Dad was in the Fourth Marine Division and was training for the invasion. I've no issue with the dropping of the bombs or our President laying a wreath to honor those killed.
That Japan refuses to do the same just shows that we are the better nation.

Why, Hiroshima ?

Why not visit an ally of the USA in WWII who's citizens suffered greater numbers of casualties and actual genocide at the hands of their Conquerer?
Umm, . . . that's a rhetorical question, of course. In case the reader had any doubt, Obama's Magical Mystery Tour around the world is really all about The Obama and his Legacy of Apology:

DonDiego suggests the interested reader, if any, consider the The Rape of Nanking. Death beneath "Little Boy" detonated at 2000 feet was a walk-in-the-park compared to the Japanese atrocities, true "unspeakable acts", endured by the Chinese in Nanking.
But there's no reason to apologize for America there.

Where's next, . . . Mexico, where he can apologize for the defense of the Alamo, or winning the Mexican-American War, or stealing Santa Anna's cork leg?

About 20 seconds. I remembered the uproar over Bitburg, but not by name, so I typed "Reagan" and then "Nazi" into my address bar, and you'll never guess what Google auto-completed it with: "Grave!" So maybe it was more like tens seconds.

Why do you ask?

Here they lie, never to hope, never to pray, never to live, never to heal, never to laugh, never to cry.... And then, rising above all this cruelty, out of this tragic and nightmarish time, beyond the anguish, the pain and suffering, and for all time, we can and must pledge: never again."

Reagan made a mistake in agreeing to place a wreath at a Bitburg cemetery containing SS Soldiers graves after the German Government had assured the Americans that nothing would "embarrass" the Americans.

However, when the knowledge that SS troops were buried there caused a controversy the Americans changed the travel plans to include a trip with German Chancellor Kohl to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

On Sunday 5 May 1985, Reagan and Kohl appeared at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The U.S. President's speech there, according to Time, was a "skillful exercise in both the art of eulogy and political damage control." Reagan said:

"All these children of God, under bleak and lifeless mounds, the plainness of which does not even hint at the unspeakable acts that created them. Here they lie, never to hope, never to pray, never to live, never to heal, never to laugh, never to cry.... And then, rising above all this cruelty, out of this tragic and nightmarish time, beyond the anguish, the pain and suffering, and for all time, we can and must pledge: never again."

Clearly "the president " was referring to the nightmarish evils of Naziism against the Jews of Europe.

Shame on forkushV for suggesting the same speech should be applied to the dead of Hiroshima and the "unspeakable act" of dropping the nuclear bomb on an enemy sworn to defend the Home Island to the Death. "Little Boy" probably saved tens-of-thousands of American lives. Some estimates suggest a million dead had the Allies needed to invade Japan.

For the record, DonDiego opines the Germans and the Japanese were the bad guys in WWII; the US owes no apology for what the Country did to win the War.

forkush has no shame - everything he says is tainted with ignorance and stupidity.
