They have been impossible for me to use with the last three trips I've taken and they aren't transferable. They expire soon and I really doubt I'll be able to find a use for them.

So, it is your experience that the 50000 initial points are treated differently from earned points when booking a flight? Has this been the experience with others of you that have received the promo points?

If so, how are they treated differently?

That was not the case with mine. Mine were treated just the same as miles earned and had no restrictions other than the ones all reward credits have (ie. blacked out at holidays, etc)

I'm glad to hear they are doing things differently, because the promo flight option really stunk. If they are now treated as regular reward credits I may have the wife join, I've already cancelled my card.
I was also told at signup that the 2 flights were transferable.

........ then since I signed up at the Chicago airport, I got a free Chicago T-Shirt from the boothling.

................. then I also got a T-Shirt for my wife (or the deal was off, LOL).

Thanks to everyone who has posted. Still haven't decided to get card or not. I too am curious if 50000 initial points are treated different then other points. We usually fly SW-it's been a long time since have flown any other airline. Do you have to wait to use points until you have enough for 2 free roundtrips or can use them for one round trip or part of a trip?

I got a card in my name and another in my wife's name and had no trouble using the "promo" points from Cleveland to Vegas.

To clear up any questions, just call Southwest. As I said before, getting this card is a no-brainer.

Listen up here Darcie ....... after your first purchase (of anything), you get enough points for 2 round trips.

I've had one since 1997 and boy do I love the free flights. Its the primary card I use.
For the last 7 years my wife has had a companion pass and I've averaged 9 free tickets a year (thats 18 free flights a year counting my wife's flights). Never had a problem booking and now its even better with no limits.
Just booked my March LV flight under new program and it cost me 200 more points than under the old system...not exactly a big deal.
With all those free flights I don't have a problem with the annual fee of a measly $65 (thats less then 2 minutes worth of play on a $ VP machine).
........ and ya get free drink tickets too !!!!!

Rick
Used my free 2 RT's and saved about $900.00 are you still waiting for someone else out here to say " don't do it "
